Too much trouble "gearing up". Used to ride to work May-Oct here in MN but it was always just a pain before and after the ride to get dressed/undressed comb the hair, wear a backpack for a nice shirt and shoes at work. The ride was awesome, but everything else wasn't. Car it is!

I decided to stop riding on the street and sell my r6 about two years ago when my first son was born. I told myself I wouldn't commute on the bike when i first got it years ago, but i began commuting in it more and more. so much faster and more entertaining, but so much more dangerous with crazy bay area traffic.
I had my c6 corvette and other fun cars while i had the bike, but the rush/fix from riding the bike in the twisties was impossible to beat in a car for me. I would always favor the bike. |

Still have mine and ride. Totally different experience imo. I still have a 1998 CBR900RR I bought new and the S1000R a few years ago. Still hard to beat the performance bang for the buck. Besides local, we do few bike tours annually. Mountain stuff and whatnot. Track days etc. Pretty apples and oranges.

It's Been two years since I sold bike, miss it. Working on wife to get another one but not looking good. I'm older now and it just might not be worth the risk with all the knuckle heads on the road. But who knows.

Cars are great, but nothing beats being all to ride at the track. The performance bargain that a bike offers is second to none. I don't really street ride anymore, but I am on the track on a bike 50-60 days a year and around 10-15 in a car.

I am 68, and have been riding m/c since I was 14. Also had a few performance cars in that time. Today I have to choose btween my Kawasaki zrx 1200, Husqvarna 650 dirt bike or the 17 Camaro ss convertible (ya I know, hard choices) I still enjoy all 3, but find myself on some days not wanting to gear up for a bike ride, or too hot or cold. Also going to the beach, or out for dinner, it's always the Camaro. Proly be selling the dirt bike in a year or two. Never selling the ZRX, when I can't ride any more it will be passed on to one of my nephews.

I pretty much only ride dirt any more. It is about 1000 times more interesting than the street. There are so many places to ride in New Mexico, that I'll never ride them all. Dirt is not necessarily safer for me, as I just broke my collar bone a few weeks ago in a get-off. But I have been riding for 46 years, and I'm not stopping now.
My son rides my Suzuki DR 790 Super Motard. I still cruise around Albuquerque on the chopper I built 14 years ago. |

Turned 66 this year and still riding. I started riding at 16 and owned a CB750 and Z900 back in the '70s. But when my kids were born, I gave up bikes like others in this thread.
When my son was at UConn, he broke his wrist and asked me if I could ride his Yamaha 650 Maxim home. I hadn't ridden in about 25 years, but still had my MC license and had a helmet from HPDE track days. That was a scary ride home at first, but shortly afterwards I realized I still had the itch, and bought a new 2009 650 Ninja a few weeks later. Right away I realized that wasn't enough bike, and ended up trading it for a literbike, a 2011 Z1000. Now we're talking! But yes, in deference to age, I am slowing down, and only put about 200 miles on the Z1000 this year. It still puts a smile on my face whenever I ride it, and I have no intention of giving it up just yet. The Z has 6800 miles now after 10 years. Here are pictures of us dropping off the 650 and picking up the 1000 at the dealership. It was too cold for me that day, but no problem for my son, who did the honors. BTW, I replaced that red jacket with a proper green Kawasaki jacket!
