$750 in labor for a tear down?

So maybe a few of you guys know and remember. But I had a little lifter collapse. The guy I have working on it now is charging $750 for the tear down, inspection, cleaning, and reassembly of the engine. To me this seems fairly....low? Does this sound right to all you knowledgeable folks. Basically I love a good deal. Bit i don't want this guy screwing himself over trying to help a friend.

No that's fair price , taking the heads off is not a huge job on LS motors

Ok, hold up, is this on a L99 or LS3?

If you are L99 you should swap the AFM lifters out... If LS3, keep doing what you're doing.

Yea it's L99. And for sure all new lifters. GPI had only done the AFM ones. Think we're going A.C. Delco

Wait, so you did a cam swap? And I assume you put in the LS3/LS7 lifters to replace the stock AFMs? So then you had one of those fail?

Yes that's what I'm saying. 5k miles roughly. Oil change to oil change basically.

I'm surprised GPI only replaced the AFM lifters, unless that is what you requested. Did you have low miles?

Yea i think i was at 32 or 35k at the swap. And yes i was really shocked to hear they just replaced AFM and left the others. I talked with James a few times in the span of 2 weeks after the collapse happened. He talked woth Ryan and came to the conclusion it was nothing they did on the installation. And sorry if my opinion of low miles isn't the same as yours.

I guess I wouldn't be 'shocked to hear' they didn't replace them with only 32k miles. The lifters aren't known as a common failure part. Yes, they do fail, but generally every part will one day fail. I mean, I"m at 83k miles and no issues with lifters (yet) and many are in similar boats.

Are you going to upgrade with better lifters?
