Aspect ratio of 35 or 30

I’m about to pull the trigger on some MRR wheels and wider tires. I know everyone is going with the 285/30 and 305/30 set up but sometimes it looks like too much gap without lowering the car. I’d rather not go that route. Ive see a few use 275/35 and 295/35 tires instead which fill in the wheel well. What are everyone’s thoughts? Is the gap just in my head? It seems like half of the pics I see look fine and half dont.

Thanks

I went 295/30/20 and 325/30/20. You could go the same up front but do a 315/30/20 and should fill up the gap nicely.

30 on the rear will work well but I’d recommend doing a 35 up front. I have 275/30ZR20 & 295/30ZR20 and wish I had done 265/35 or 275/35 up front. I’m dropped on Eibach springs but still would like the front tire to fill the wheel well up better.

Thanks for the advice so far. Lots to consider. I’m now considering lowering as an option.

I would keep the stock SS height, not 1LE/ZL1, unless you autocross or road race on the regular

Come spring I'll be going with 285/35/20 in the front and 315/30/20 in the rear.

These are the closest in overall height to the factory setup on a standard 2SS (+/- 0.7%), and I don't want to mess up ABS, Stabilitrak or the speedo (too much). 285/30/20 is 3.6% shorter than OEM, I'm wary of such a big delta, this isn't a 1LE and the calibration is sure different.

That is the set I initially wanted but cant find anything for sure about if the 315/30 fit without spacers. I dont mind relocating the harness and modifying the liner some

Weather here up northeast is trash with the streets full of salt until late March, and my car is in winter storage, but I'll find out about the spacer situation as soon as I can
Harness is already relocated, will see about the liner, too.

Keep in mind, a shorter sidewall has performance impacts.

Smaller sidewall gives less deflection in turns meaning higher responsiveness and bump stiffness. Smaller overall diameter means more force to the ground for the same torque but at the expense of top speed at redline

Smaller overall diameter also lowers the roll center and CG, both of which improve cornering and braking. Increasing tire diameter is almost never a good thing for performance. FWIW, the ZLE has significantly shorter tires from the factory.

They are riding on 19s so they have the sidewall.

the difference in absorbing bumps between the SS sidewall vs 1LE/ZL1 is significant

One of the few advantages the ss has over a 1LE. The car is plush with the taller tires and suspension in tour.

Well tire gap is always a personal preference but my opinion is whatever gives you about a two finger gap between the top of the tire and the fender lip is about perfect.

In my particular case, using APEX 19 x 10.5 wheels and 305 30 19 tires with a SG3 suspension on a Camaro SS (GM lowering springs set up with 1LE sway bars) gets me there. WITHOUT the suspension upgrades I had a little too much tire gap and the lowering springs CLOSED the gap by dropping the car ROUGHLY 1/2 an inch on all four corners. PRIOR to upgrade I had about a 2 1/2 to 3 finger gap.

PRIOR to the suspension upgrade look at these pics BELOW (a little too much gap)

https://www.camaro6.com/forums/showt...=515659&page=6

The Camaro has a natural RAKE down or NOSE down attitude meaning that even with the same size tire on front and back, the car is CLOSER to the ground just behind the front wheels when compared to ground clearance at the area just in FRONT of the rear tires. You may also notice that GENERALLY there is a little more tire gap ABOVE the front tires than the GAP about the rear tires.

On a 20 inch wheel set up, I would DEFINITELY run 305 30 tires on that. Assuming you DONT lower the car , then you would have that same two finger gap I mentioned above. If your LOWER the car with the GM suspension upgrade kit then the GAP would be about one finger which would look good as well.
