I can pretty much guarantee the stock muffler pan or pan however you want to call them are pretty heavy and the aftermarket will be much lighter, at least 15 to 20 lbs. When I replaced my exhaust on my 2010 with the borla mufflers it was a pretty nice savings in weight.

If aero is what they were after, why not use lighter exhaust and use a light weight aero plate or a different "aero" diffuser? - I think thet were going after cost savings on this - I guess we will find out more soon

It's pretty obvious from the few pictures we've seen that it's no cover. So unless they're using a mock up exhaust on everything we've seen it's a garbage can muffler.

No doubt that what we see is a jumbo sized muffler body. The question is does it serve an aero purpose to smooth air to the rear diffuser. If so, when it is removed and the space is left open will it create drag by the going into the diffuser and bumper cover instead of flowing past underneath it. Like others have said I guess we'll find out when folks start snatching them off the car. But it would be nice if there was some word form Chevy or someone in the know.

The scion FRS uses it's stock muffler as a diffuser to reduce high pressure zone in the rear of the car. Check out Borla's fix for that solution. I'm sure that the OEM muffler serves the same purpose in the new camaro. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=T53E3xVQR0M

Can someone tell me if the dual mode actuator is inside the muffler or the tip? I was just wondering if I were to get dual mode and later change my mind and fab something keeping dual mode. If i fab something up I would definitely make a cover with diffusers.

Just because focus was on making the car lighter doesn't mean they weren't forced to add a larger muffler for sound requirements and airflow. Just think if you could save 20-40lbs by a simple swap which most gearheads do anyways. Makes a "lighter" car even lighter and it'll sound better. I'm OK with what gm did.

http://www.camaro6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=409264 Sounds like if you want it any louder while keeping stock functionality, you'll need to remove any resonators, or do something that alters the stock cats (headers / high flow cats) but the trash can will likely have to stay in place until a company comes up with another exhaust that uses the stock tips. I believe the flappers are in the tips, but not sure what, if any of that dual mode functionality is found in the muffler. At the very least, will need to reuse the tips and some of the plumbing up from that?

That is exactly what i wanted to know, I saw that the corvette npp were in the tip which would mean you could weld the tips to a side flow exhaust and keep the dual mode. This is cheaper than buying cutouts and running wire. Straight pipe, glass packs for the track and maybe corsa or flowmaster, etc.. on the street.

I remember reading something about "Stealth Mode" Maybe they need a huge muffler to make that happen? - the SS in the drive by video does sound awesome, I just think the big muffler looks kinda stupid
