turbo4 over v6?
I'm currently an international student moving to USA. I was planning to get a v8 but the high insurance cost and gas killed my desire for the v8, so I decided for the v6 but I have heard some forumers talked about a tubo4 would be easily to mod and get it faster than a v6 with better mpg and for a cheaper price.
So practically my question is what upgrades/mods does the turbo4 needs to get fast as the v6 or even the v8. And how much $$ will they cost aprox. |

Easier to mod than the v6? Probably.
Better MPG? I think that can be debated. On paper, yes, the I-4 Turbo will probably get better fuel milage than the v6 but most likely only by 1-2 mpg. However, I think the 4 cylinder requires premium fuel while the v6 runs on regular. In the the long run, the stock v6 will cost less and be quicker than the stock I4. |

v6 will be around $800-1500 more than the turbo 4.
Probably identical fuel mileage in real life. But v6 will be cheaper on fuel. v6 is without a doubt better stock, turbo 4 will likely be better with $1000 in upgrades. Likely just a tune, throttle controller and an intake. Doubt the turbo 4 can beat the v8 without an insane amount of work and money. It will void your warranty though, so if you're concerned about insurance/gas costs I would not mod your car under warranty. Also your upgrades would either be uninsured, or they would raise your insurance cost anyways. |

I will be getting the V8 but if I was in the market for the turbo 4 or V6 I would probably get the turbo 4

Its already been stated the 0 - 60 for the turbo 4 will be well under 6 seconds, and based on that it will likely have a very low 14 second 1/4 mile. That's great performance for a base car if you ask me. As for V6 vs turbo 4. Stock, the V6 is going to be faster no doubt...especially in the 1/4 as opposed to 0 - 60 where they may not be too far apart. As said above, put $1000 worth of a tune, airbox, and a few other small bits into the turbo 4 and suddenly it will be a torque monster and likely will be running low 13s or high 12's in the quarter mile if not better than that. It will be faster than the V6 for sure....likely a bit faster than a modded V6 as well. (and if you really mod the turbo 4 with a larger turbo and other supporting mods it will be in V8 like territory) I predict this generation, we will see a modded n/a V6 get into the 12s in the 1/4 mile with bolt ons, tune, and tire (and maybe a little weight loss but likely not much needed) Should be pretty easy to coax 350 - 360 HP out of the V6 considering it already makes 335. With that much power in the 3,500 lb ride plus the 8 speed auto is going to make it a quick car as well. For me...I'd choose the V6 b/c its my cup of tea, but I have just as much respect for the turbo 4 crowd. Can't go wrong either way in my opinion.

Loved the 1.4 T in my Cruze, and the 2.0 T in the Malibu is great. With the power bump in the new Camaro, I think the 2.0 T will be just fine.

If your worried about money etc your going do be voiding your warranty with mods. This could cost you big time.
V6 will be considerably faster stock to stock. If you don't care I would get the 4. As some have said it will have good potential with a turbo. |
