Very interesting, I just noticed that the lap time of the Corvette C8 Z51 at LS per MT's Best driver's car performed by Randy Pobst is slower than the one previously posted by the 2017 Camaro SS1LE. That's amazing for the 6th gen Camaro

Camaro SS1LE: 1:37.77
Both of them on Summer street tires

The SS1LE can lap faster than the C8 Z51 but it wouldn't be faster than the also N.A. C7 Grand Sport.

Not to take anything away from the SS 1LE, but the C7 Z51 is 1 sec faster at VIR based on Car and Driver's Lightning lap results, while the C8 Z51 is 5.8s faster: https://www.caranddriver.com/feature...storical-data/

C8 Z51 --> 2:49.0
C7 Z51 --> 2:53.8
SS 1LE --> 2:54.8

With both on similar 200 treadwear tires, I'd expect the C7 Z51 and C8 Z51 to be a little bit faster on most tracks. The results we're comparing are also on different days, so makes the comparison a little murky.

Nope, the 1LE comes with Eagle F1 SuperCar 3 which are absolutely not street tires while the C8 Z51 just comes with Pilot Sport 4S. Put track tires on the C8 and it could easily be second ahead of the SS 1LE

That is incorrect, check the tires classification at tire rack, both are considered street tires:


Eagle F1 SuperCar 3 - Extreme Summer performance.

Michelin Pilot Sport 4S - Max performance tire.

But more to the point, the treadwear rating and ultimate (dry) capability of those two tires are much different. The F1 SC3 tire is definitely a more capable tire for track work.

GYSC3 were developed for the ZL1. They are "DOT street legal", but let's be realistic, BARELY street legal. They are a track focused tire that received DOT approval for street, that's all.

Get a massive rainstorm, not so good a street tire anymore!!! lol

Awesome tire, love them. Street tires yes, but not like most others.
