Ill affects from Octane Booster?
Hey everyone, my tune requires the use of an octane booster for this shitty 91 we have here in Cali. Aside from changing the plugs a different shade of color, are there any other ill affects from running an Octane Booster on every fill up? Trying to stay as stock "looking" as possible is def a priority living in Cali, so going with a TooHigh setup would make me uneasy. Thanks for any input or suggestions!

It's said anything in the exhaust could get build-up. I never noticed much on my plugs, but I was just trying to blend to about 93-94. I ran RaceGas (orange - 1-32oz can per tank) and Professional Boostane to blend to about the same.
All say they're safe but no one makes a guarantee. I think the Boostane was a bit of a better buy, and a proven product, as RaceGas and VP's Octanium.

Can you get a jug of fuel from a race fueling and mix it per fill up? Kind like what they do with "89" octane in the east. Just a mix of 93 and 87 octane. But you would mix 91 and whatever? No full on race gas just mix it in.
Octane boosters are going to be $$$, which you already know and it freaks me out that the big fuel guys do not offer it. Like shell, bp etc...

Not sure where you live in CA, but my town has VP unleaded at the station. I’d rather back off a tune than rely on octane booster, but that’s me.

Please don't take my next comments as anything negative towards Octane boosters...
I stopped using Boostane after a couple WB02 sensor failures and an Injector issue. I switched to water/meth and haven't had any of those issues repeat since (same or longer amount of time has passed). I have no way to directly tie these failures to Boostane other than the fact that they haven't repeated since I stopped using it. I was mixing 93 up to 98+. They work but I just don't think it is appropriate to use them every tank. Heading to an event like a track day or dyno event as an extra precaution against knock should be fine.

I think he's trying to be as mod' friendly as possible, because in CA, even law enforcement will stop cars for mods' without CARB-exemption. So - some people use strategies that minimize any visual cues of any modifications to the car. Being octane limited to 91, and with smog nazi's everywhere, it's hard to get power, so if you can get a few tens-worth of power through better fuel, that's one way to stay low on the radar.
I think if everyone uses that as a filter, the reasoning behind the OP's post might become a little clearer. JMHO.

Hi all,
When I lived in Cali, I used to mix locally available 100 octane unleaded race gas in a percentage to up my shitty 91 to a less shitty 93. The car ran better for sure, but then, five years ago, it was $10.00 per gallon. No idea the cost now. I used available charts from the net for the mix ratio. Never had any issues at all. Sadly, the better fuel mix never helped the totally stupid off-idle stumble the ‘18 ZLE was stuck with from the stock ECU settings. I haven’t used anything but AZ 91 in my new ‘22 ZLE, as I really haven’t had tons of time to drive it. But it does run a lot better and stronger than my’18 did. JJ

I've been running Race Gas literally since day 1. My outside exhaust tips are orange vs black. That's about it.

I don’t use octane booster because I’ve heard of fouling spark plugs, O2 sensors, and cats.
