If you want the fancy styling of a red shackle on the end of your OEM tow rod, then pick up a certified Crosby 4 part lifting shackle with safety pin and spray paint it red. The problem is the Chinese knock-offs are not the same metallurgical composition and any kind of side loading will cause the inferior steel to either deflect or fail, which will slingshot to the tow car and hurt the tow driver or injure his tow vehicle.

Curious...has anyone painted the ring on the OEM tow hook to match their car? If so, I'd love to see a pic of how it turned out, how it looks on the car.
Wondering how much different it may look since it doesn't fold like the aftermarkets. |

ZL1 Addons has 2 styles, 1 that folds and 1 that doesn't. I prefer the 1 that doesn't. It just so happens to come in red which matches my car.

Here's my tow hook off of Ebay. It comes from American Authority with a red loop and black shaft. I painted the loop yellow. It fits perfect; not too long and not too short. (NOTE: this tow hook is cosmetic only). I'll use the OEM tow hook in the trunk if my car ever needs to be towed.
