What is the best/easiest way to make the gold bow ties black?
I have a Blue Ray Metallic 1LE and I really want to grey rid of the gold in the bow ties on the front and back. Is there an easy way to do this?

I second the Plasti Dip. I painted mine a couple of weeks back and they turned out perfect. I used flat black and it contrasts nice with the black car and blends well with the other plastic trim. I've washed the car a couple of times since and it's holding up great. There are a bunch of YouTube videos you can watch on the subject that will give you some helpful hints on applying it.

On my 2012 Camaro I removed the bowties and used an orange automotive painters tape to tape off all the chrome. Tape held to the chrome perfectly, I made sure I got the tape in the area of the separation between the gold and chrome so there would be no over-spray, Bowties came out perfect.

I've done vinyl and plastic dip. I liked the plastic dip the most.
I just used blue painters tape and taped off everything but the gold and sprayed on a few coats. Had no issues and looked great. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Plastidip is the easiest and looks the best, in my opinion. Takes a little prep work and time to lay out the paper and tape, but its cheap and lasts a long time.

I did mine with Plastidip about 16 months ago. It was easy, looks great and has held up excellent. I had some bugs on my front one after a recent long road trip and hit it pretty hard with the pressure washer. It looks the same as it did the day after I first sprayed it. As a few others have mentioned, there's the time doing the masking, but the results are worth it.

On a '14, just take a tiny flathead screw driver and the gold inlay will pop off pretty easy. Its held on with some black RTV looking stuff. Clean it and paint it with a high quality paint of your choice. Glue back on with black RTV. Took me about an hour to do front and back and I didn't mask anything...super easy
The bow ties on a '14 are not the same as previous years. Vinyl doesn't work real good because of the texture of the surface. Plasti dip is fine, but masking is not necessary. |

I took my bow tie off and painted it with Rustoleum Satin Black spray paint - did 5 or so feathery coats to let it dry well. I tried plasti-dip, didn't like the stuff. I don't like the idea of spraying the dip on and knowing it can just be peeled off so easily - I prefer the permanent solution.

Vinyl, by far the quickest way to do it. Don't like it, rip me off and redo them. Only prep work is to clean the area. I just posted in another thread I did my cruze and my wife's equinox with black vinyl came out great. I can't stand gold.
