The Nitto 555R2 is a great tire for a daily for someone looking for better grip than a street tire and also serving those other purposes I mentioned pretty decently.

I can understand and agree with those that prefer the Nitto for those reasons over the MT, however since trying both tires and in my personal experience, the MT SS tire prevails over the Nittos for pure traction. I believe many would agree with my assessment both online and in person that they would chose an MT tire over the Nitto if they are looking for the better hooking tire.
I have seen people recommend the MT SS over the original Nitto 555R. The 555R2 is just so much better balanced, it has the grip for drag racing as well as cornering. I've heard some folks complain about the MT SS being floaty at high speeds too.

The SSs dang well do float. The more power, and faster you seem to go, it seems the more they float. It is not confidence inspiring, IMO...

Would you say the 555R2 is good on a 17"? I know King's on board with Nittos, but I haven't yet tried them. The last time I had DRs was back 15-years ago...

I tried MTETSR at the beginning of the season, but they wobbled badly over the top end. On the other hand, a gazillion racers use them so they can't all be bad.

The 555R2 is the best streetable DR available. The MT ET Street R is the best DR available but not one you would want to drive in the rain.

This ^^^ I'm at 850rwhp and as long as warm out I don't spin at 60. If i do a decent burnout i can hook at even lower speeds on street. I don't hook from a full dig, but that's expected on the street.

Ive also got quite a bit of miles on the 555r2's as well and still quite a bit of meat left.

Street R's for a pure radial or R888R for a street tire. I've seen a lot of hellcat guys rock the Nittos and enjoy them, but that's a different platform. I've used the SS and I think they're a great tire as well as a sort of in between. Can't really go wrong with any of them at stock power especially if the car won't see rain.

The street R suck at cornering though. The traction is second to none, but traction control loves to flash if you corner just a little too fast.

I hear ya about the float but I've only experienced that with the street R's not the SS. I did hear a few folks experienced that with the SS as well. Maybe it has something to do with how they were balanced or could just be the nature of the MT tires due to their soft sidewalls.

Why would you not put 17" wheels on her if you are going with the Nittos? You will see a difference with the added sidewall.
