Front Brake Cooling Deflector

I know some other people have mentioned or talked about this. I know the manual talks about installing this prior to trackdays on non 1LE SS.

Some people have installed it on their 1LE's and I went ahead and did it as well. I only installed the deflector so far, I haven't put the heat shields on yet but I'll put up a video when I do.

Here are some quick reference pictures from before/after incase it helps anyone

Are you leaving these on permanently or taking them off after track days? Anybody on here leave them on year round?

Mine were installed during PDI and I've never taken them off.

I don't drive this car often, usually just to and from the track and some weekend driving here and there. Roads are good where I live so I'll most likely leave them on unless they start scraping a lot.

I went with the CT5 Blackwing, nothing scientific, but perceive better bite and consistent peddle feel. In Florida, anything to reduce or shed heat is a win. I do see less time cruising required for cool down, must add some value.

But you guys are also installing the tiny heat shields, or at least taking the OE off, right? Otherwise this is a brake shield cooler.

The 1LE shield is pretty small compared to the OE shield on the non-1LE SS. Even just swapping these bigger ducts on you'll get more airflow to the rotor, just slightly less than what you'd get if you swapped out the brake shield as well. I don't have any data so I could be wrong, but just looking at the components I'm willing to bet that you'll be good just swapping the deflectors and not having to mess with the rotor shield unless you're running some seriously aggressive pads that are outputting a ton of heat or have a decent amount of added engine power.

Even w/o the heat shield it gets much more air to the rotor on the 1LE. But yes, you need to install the smaller shield if you want the best result.

I'm going to do the heat shield tomorrow. Need to get some good thread lock for the caliper bolts.

Also been running with the larger deflectors and smaller shield on my SS (non 1LE) for a couple of years. I have to be esp slow on some speed bumps as they will drag slightly sometimes. But also not a DD for me. When I started tracking, i did the first 4 or 5 events with the larger disc shield in place, and stock pads. I had no issue, but changed them later. you results may vary... safest to change shields as well. I use red loctite on the caliper bolts. they are not fun to take off, or put back on...... i use a large impact given there is access in the front. ;-)
