They gets stolen a lot... Maybe that's the reason. I had 2021 Charger 392 WB and 2011 Ford Fusion SEL V6, and replacing Fusion with ZL1 barely made a dent in the insurance premium... I don't know the ratio for the cars, but it was either super expensive to insure Fusion, or indeed Charger/Challenger rates are much higher than Camaro.

I believe challengers also have the lowest crash safety ratings beweej the 3? Which is not surprising given how old the platform is.

No, actully pretty good crash rating, I think all categories at max, except headlights. Headlights suuuuck in those cars. Maybe you mistaken with Durango. Durango is pretty bad at crash tests.
