2020 RS tire question

Running the original 245 40 20 now. Like to go wider without rubbing issues. Any suggestions or opinions is appreciated

Check out the website TireSize.com for alternate sizes for your Camaro. You can compare different sizes with the original size in the site. Hope this helps you.

You can only go so wide on the stock rim before decreasing overall performance, wear, and safety. Also have to consider overall diameter as well since that could throw off the speedo

255 is likely the widest you can fit on an 8.5" rim... I'll be swapping out the run flats for a 255 on my LT1 soon.

Agreed. I would really not recommend going wider than 245 on your stock 8.5" wheels. The easy-button answer is to purchase a set of take-off SS wheels and tires, of which there seem to always be some for sale. That is 20x8.5 et25 with 245/40/20 front and 20x9.5 et 39 with 275/35/20 rear in the chart below. You can always go even bigger with SS 1LE fitment directly below it.

If you prefer the same width front and rear, you may need to get comfortable with spacers because the offsets are different. For example, you could go with 20x10 wheels with offset around 40mm and then use ~15-18mm spacers up front. You'd need longer studs for that, which is not a big deal. Then you could use 285/30/20 tires front and rear. For that matter, you could find two pairs of stock SS rear wheels and use spacers on the fronts, with the 275/35/20 tire fitment. You have lots of choices, but you really need to plan new wheels.

The safest way for you to go wider is to order a wheel and tire set for the SS from tirerack.com.

That way, you will be assured of the correct width and offset of the rims.

So I guess the SS takeoffs would be the best bet. There are a few locally for sale. Thanks

Or get better tires for the stock rims, like the Michelin Pilot Sport. They'll last longer too, since they can be rotated to all 4 wheels

OP what is your goal here? Are you just wanting a slightly wider look or what exactly?

Have you considered running some spacers instead. I'm not usually a fan of these, but it would be a cheaper alternative to give you a slightly wider look

It sounds like you want a wider tire. If looking for a good all season I recommend the Michelin AS 3+ in the factory SS size on a stock SS rim.

Is the SS tire the same diameter as the LT1 so the speedo isn’t thrown off with the A10? What drag radial choices does the LT1 have all while making no changes to the stock tune?

You can go 255/285 on stock SS wheels, anything beyond that can be dicey. Spacers are an option, but do you want to screw up the suspension geometry with big ones just for stance? Those safe and small 3-5 mm ones won't give you much of a wow factor.

If you feel adventurous, though, KingLT1 here did 305 rears with Nitto 555R on stock SS wheels: https://www.camaro6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=541363
