In my case, was not concerned about the performance difference. I enjoy taking my car on long road trips and like being prepared for whatever weather I encounter, especially heavy rain.

You'd be surprised how easy it is to find the difference between a set of PS4S and warmed-up R comps like GY3R or PSC2, even off the track. You do at least need a nice canyon road with no traffic and some good turns.

I recently removed my PSC2s and replaced with PS4S. I have to take turns noticeably slower with the street tires. I recall the same with 3R on street (once warm). On R comps you can toss the car into turns more aggressively and it hooks up. Its difficult to break traction at these speeds, the street tires howl and slip much more often, requiring more caution near walls, trees and cliffs.

Observations

PSS, cheaper, sidewalls softer and thinner than 4S, lose grip over 120F, will cord with excess camber and at low pressures <32 psi, similar to Conti EC sport. very good value, rain good.

PS4S, expensive, stiffer sidewall, better turn in, better grip, surprising track pace up to 130F and 39psi, wears like iron even with camber, improved ride compliance, rain better than SS but will still hydro plane in light standing water above 75 mph. Expensive.

G3 non R, haven't run it, takes heat better than 4S, maybe fits here

PSC2, grip comes in at 120F and peaks at 170F. Better pace than 4S. Wears better than G3R, crisp turn in gives way to noticeable more understeer, overall initially behaves similar to 3R but loses pace as laps mount, rain bad

G3 non R,,, haven't run it ,, maybe fits here from pace, seems to take heat better than 4S.

G3R, wow, consistent grip from 150F-200F lap after lap. Wears like soft butter but best at 34/35 psi, excellent response, progressive break away, tough to get tire temps over 120F on the street, deadly below below 50F, rain forget about it.

All but the G3R howl at the limit.

Running Nankang AR 1 305's on front this weekend. They roar like off road truck tires ....

G3R's make me anxious on the street .... Especially when at the wear bars and 20+ heat cycles... Fortunately, they usually don't live that long...

Does seem kind of shameful. Just checked and inventory count is down to 18 tires. There is a reciprocal wine agreement with my wife ...

My PS4s were game changers for driving in rain and cold temps. Way way better than the 3RS that comes stock on the 1LE. It’s expected though.

Ugh I’m in the same boat. Only 1800 miles on my ZLE and 3Rs. I really want to keep the 3Rs for track days and then run a set of something for the street. Just don’t want to have to buy another set of rims and I’ll likely only track the car 2 times per year. However, when I’m at the track I want it to perform. It doesn’t sound like the non R tires are great on track, but the 3 Rs suck if you get caught in bad weather. That part I don’t like.

Check some of the track times and it is clear G3's perform. There is a current thread over in the Track and autocross on G3 life and performance. Have been a Pax in ZL1s running G3's on track. Highly capable 220 class track oriented tire and better on street than 3R. Not as good as MP4S in the wet as expected from a 220 vs 300 treadwear. Dec 1, MP4s go on and stay till March 1 whereas my friend leaves his G3s on year round. Think Street class global time attack limits to 200 treadwear tires and they run at non human pace. Google Jackie Ding at Road Atlanta setting a street class record of 1.27 in a Supra on advan AO52 (200 tw) ,,, crazy fast.

Thanks for the feedback. I’ll be at Road Atlanta in December with NASA SE. Hope my 3Rs last until then.

Indeed this is what I have in the back and it does look quite impressive and I believe it's a good value for everyday street drive. That being said it's worth noting the PSS 345/30/19 in considerably taller than the 305/30/19 PS4S I have in the front. This does not bother me for my type driving but I am not sure how this difference would translate on the track.

Curious

Have you cut a PSS in half and compared it to PS4S? PPL seem to report better high speed stability with PSS tires compared to PS4S in dry weather.

I'll be selling the take offs starting next next Friday, 2100 miles on them, no burn outs or track days, $600 firm FTF. I live just off I40 between Knoxville and Nashville. One rear has been plugged from a small screw hole in the tread but holds air like a new tire

If I were tracking the car with any regularity, I would stick with the OEM Goodyears. You can get them for about $800 installed through USAA or Tire Rack. The PS4's are about $1500. I hate the idea of spending that kind of money, but for a daily driver and occasional track visit, they are probably far superior. Less of the tramlining and just fighting the steering on the road in general. I'm facing that decision by spring, double the money is painful. I did get 28,000 out of my PS4's on my 17 Camaro SS with one track weekend on them as well. SOOOOO much better in the rain.
