However, an iPhone 8 regular size does indeed fit in the pad dock for a 2016 Camaro SS and a 2017 Camaro ZL1. It simply will not engage the charging routine with Apple's Qi support. My Note8 will momentarily engage, but it's such a precise spot to hold it, I can't keep it there long enough. There's more to it than just a pad and there are actually 2 different specs these days. Qi and PMA.. There used to be 3, but two of them merged. My Note 8 can do Qi and PMA, the iPhone8 only handles Qi. So, there's something in the charging pad that doesn't allow Apple's Qi implementation to work (I've not tried other Qi options) |

and the link in that article to the Apple KB https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT208148 So, that would seem to suggest that a 2018 and newer Camaro should allow it to charge an iPhone8. if that is indeed the case AND it's just the charging module in the rear area, then it's ~possible~, those of us with 16/17 Camaros could buy the new charge plate piece and plug in to our harness ** **assuming that the input to the module is plug/power compatible and it's just internal to the module circuitry that allows for the Qi certification to work. would be interesting to see the part numbers for this piece for a 2016, 17 and 18 Camaro and see where the numbers vary and then open one to see how much is different. **EDIT (did my own search) ** 2016 - 17 Camaro - Wireless charging module: MODULE - GM (23248791) and says it replaced part 13508881 I can't find the P/N online for free for the 2018s.. There's a couple paywalled services manuals though. Last edited by Mr. Meh; 11-16-2017 at 03:46 PM. |

It's just an induction pad, at it's core...there's GOT to be a way of removing the old unit, and putting a new one in, even if it doesn't fit quite right, using the existing power supply...
EDIT: I just saw the above post about 2018 models...I can confirm that the iPhone X does NOT charge in my 2018 Camaro :(....yet, I wonder if we can yank out one of the pads from the above models and plug it into our cars.... |

Also, at least from this chart -- it claims it's the same module as that's the SUV center console in the picture. https://www.gmpartsdirect.co/oem-par...odule-23248791 |

According to the Apple tech I spoke to, Qi has Low Power and High Power protocols. Some phones can operate with one, some phones can operate with the other, some can operate with either. Apple iPhones only work with High Power. Camaro pads are Qi Low Power.

I just tried again.
Even if I take off the Apple-approved phone case, no dice. It blipped the charging logo once as I placed it down, then it immediately lost signal. I may bring it to the dealer in the Spring just to see what they say. Sadly putting the car away for the winter tomorrow. |

By the way, my IPhone X fits on the charging pad, snug but fits. So in the case of IPhone X users, changing the charging unit could solve the problem, if that is an option. |

This isnt GM issue, they put a industry adopted and standard wireless charger into their vehicles. They cant help the fact that Apple once again has decided to go outside the norm instead of following the industry standard.
Apple has done this for years, with their Bluetooth stack with their file transfer system and now with their charging protocol. |

The specs for wireless charging are changing so quickly, this is not surprising. They've already announced a higher speed charger for the next iPhone X. Judging by the list of phones that don't work with GM chargers maybe it would be best to figure out how to convert the area to usable space instead of a charging pad, can certainly use some storage in the cabin..
