That has very little to do with it. The Corvette plant was designed to be tour-friendly. The Corvette Museum has a special agreement with GM when it comes to letting people pick up their cars there. There is nothing like that at Lansing.

The Corvette plant is the only one that does that kind of thing, but I'm pretty sure you can tour pretty much any GM plant. I've worked in a few of them now and there were visitors there all the time. I know the Hamtrammk plant had guided tours and they were only building the Cadillac DTS and Buick Lucerne at the time, but people still came just to see how a car was built.
