Running OnStar just for the hell of it. XM though no. I ran it for a bit in my 5th gen, and put an XM combatible headset in my 3rd gen and had both subscribed but the product just wasn't worth it. And they are bat shit crazy with the spam calls trying to get you to re-up.

I don't have onstar and don't need it. The remote start from your phone feature is about the only thing I would use and I have a manual so that's a no go. I like Sirius XM but I hate the little game they play with their rates. If they just locked me into a rate that was about the same as their rate they send you after you cancel I would be a lifelong subscriber. I don't subscribe anymore because of that BS.

You have android auto, just subscribe to google music and have on the go ad free. If you still want XM you should call them and negotiate a deal and not take the default prices. I still get their mails with deals like $30 for 6 months.

I had an accident 3 weeks after getting my new camaro. on star called me to see if I was hurt and had the police there before I was off the phone with them. had there been a serious injury, where response time mattered, it could have made the difference between life and death. I also like the phone app that comes with it...I send directions from my phone to my car all the time, can check to see if I have enough fuel to make my next meeting or if I need to add time to stop. in todays world we're under constant surveillance from countless sources...it's just a fact. I like the features so I use it. also when you change destinations mid route, just hit the onstar button and they'll send you updated directions to the car.

I ended up buying a home kit with speakers and antenna from a guy on Craigslist, which he was selling with a lifetime plan. I paid $225 8 years ago and still have it on the same device. Due to having a lifetime plan in my name, I also pay $40 a year for the online plan so I can listen from a computer or my cell phone and stream it through whatever vehicle I'm in. |

I let both lapse and never thought about them again. Well, until just now.

XM, yes. Onstar, waste of money IMHO. Now that we get the basics for app use, no need to pay. It's nice to remote start or unlock if you are not close enough to use key fob. I like the variety for XM. Plus, I like to be able to stream to my phone on the XM app. Handy for me, but maybe not everyone.

Saw this thread and reminded me to cancel the XM on my Equinox. I actually prefer AM radio. I know, I'm old and boring, and the limited time I spend listening to music can be satisfied by what's on regular radio. I'd rather listen to the RPMs sing instead.

Not always the smartest one, there’s countless people on this forum smarter than me. I’m just someone who has no patience for people who lack common sense.

Yeah well you dont know me by a few posts, and just because my opinion about phone tracking vs onstar tracking doesnt necessarily line up with your's, doesnt mean either one of us has or doesn't have common sense. I dont like the idea of being listened into by anyone in the privacy of my car or home, but we've all done this to ourselves by having this need for technology. People wanted this stuff without thinking about what they are truly giving up. Im sitting here staring at a 65" TV that is more than capable of being used to spy on me. Do I like it? Hell no, but we are being forced into this more and more every day. I understand your concerns as I have them too. I just dont see condemning one form of spying without condemning all of it. If I cared about it as much as you seem too, I wouldnt be connected at all which is just about impossible because other companies and other humans connect you whether you like it or not. I dont use Onstar service myself, but I can see reasons for it if the privacy issues you brought up doesnt bother a person. Im told a car can still listen and track your conversations without Onstar anyhow if it has hands free calling and bluetooth radio, apple carplay or Android audio. Who knows. It wouldnt surprise me a lick.
