The Pacific

Just got done watching the final episode. All I can say.....wow. The final one had me crying most of the way through.

If you saw the series, what'd you think? If you haven't seen it, they're playing all 10 episodes memorial day weekend. DO NOT WATCH IT EXPECTING BAND OF BROTHERS OR SAVING PRIVATE RYAN. A small part character in the 10th episode pretty much summed it up - "I jumped into Normandy, but at least I got R&R in England and Paris. All you Marines got was jungle rot and malaria"

Haven't seen it yet as I don't get HBO without paying an extra $10 a month or something ridiculous like that. But I'll definitely be looking to buy this on DVD/Blu-Ray when it comes out! Loved Band of Brothers, and since I'm a Marine this should be just that much better

It was good but it just can't compare to BoB. I know it wasn't meant to but IMO, it didn't even get the story told as well as BoB did. I enjoyed it because I'm a huge WW2 buff but I wasn't "wow" at the end of the series.

I didn't miss an episode. If you haven't seen it do yourself a favor and watch it. You will be hooked after the first episode. The best part is that it's 100% true stories.

It really hit close to home for me. I served in Iraq and can relate to alot of the content of the series. John Basilone is every Marines hero from their first week of bootcamp. Semper Fi!!!

The only bad thing for me is I didn't find it quite as good as Band of Brothers.

But it was outstanding and any historical depiction of WWII like Pacific is moving.

I am grateful to Tom Hanks for recognizing the need to memorialize the times and the people. At one point I was sad that the rest of the world had forgotten the sacrifices the American people made on their behalf. Now I am more afraid that Americans will forget the sacrifices. So I am grateful for the effort to remember the generation of Americans and the lives they gave that changed history.
