Why do you cover your license plate in photos?

I am sure you drive by more cars on the road than number of people that read your posts in a forum, I don't understand why people hide their license plate? Please explain what they are afraid of? Here is mine, should I be afraid?

I am wondering the same thing, why do people block their license plates in the forum?

I always wondered that also. Drive around all day, people with road rage and all seeing the plate plain as day, but the minute someone posts to the forum... they hide the plate.

Oh... but if they get a vanity plate, suddenly it's okay to show it.

Doesn't add up.

Here's one even stranger. Some nut was selling a car on Craig's List that I had interest in, so I asked for the VIN number so I could pull a Carfax on it. He told me, "I'm not giving you that... it is private!" PRIVATE? It's on the dash and you can see it right through the friggen window!

I'm another who has never figured that one out; I see it on another forum I'm on as well. Anyone can see/get your plate anytime it's not locked in your garage (if you have one).

It is easy to run a plate and get the owners name and address. It's more of a privacy thing like, why are you posting here, and not using your full real name.
For me it how often these cars are stolen in CA. They are targeted and I'm sure the A***£€÷! are reading this forum.

Im a member of many forums, and its a known danger on the Turbo Regal / Grand National Forums that car thieves shop online and use car plates to track down addresses to find cars to steal. I always blank out plates and any numbers visible in my photos I post on any forum, you'd be shocked how easy it is use information in a photo you post online to track you down.

I have no idea. I see it on Velocity channel as well where they blur the license plates of the cars on the road or what they are working on except of Wheeler Dealers.

Thieves must be kinda dumb. They should just go to the local car shows, then they could photograph the plates. Everyone's walking around taking photos at shows and meets.

But I'm curious though as to why when someone has a personalized vanity plate, suddenly it's okay to post photos of it? LOL

I would not cover my plate wether it was vanity or not, it really doesn't matter to me.

Why would I want to display it on the internet? Gut feelings tell me not to.

I have never figured it out either. Do I really think someone is going to run my plate and come try to take my car? Seems kinda silly to me. But I suppose anything is possible. But then again I have security camera's everywhere and alarms on everything. LOL But I don't see the point in covering plates. They are on the road everyday.
