slow 2014 lingenfelter stage 2 ZL1
Hi everyone,
i'm a new ZL1 owner, i purchased the car in November of 2013 as a 2014(6spd) model. I just installed a stage 2 Lingenfelter kit and tune (650hp) to help improve the acceleration but the car is not performing like i think it should at the drag strip. I know it is not a drag car but that should not be a reason why it cannot perform reasonably well. I suspect the car might have something wrong with it. My quarter mile times are 12.5 at best with a trap speed of 114mph - 109mph with the stage 2 kit installed, on a cool day(64 degrees fahrenheit). Launch control causes violent wheel hop on the track so i do not use it, and the best times were achieved from traction control fully off with a mild launch at 1500rpm. For comparison sake, my friends 2009 CTS-V manual ran consistent low 12's and a best of 11.98 at 119mph on the same day. My dyno results before the install read 445hp on a dynotech dyno which accounts for 30% drivetrain loss. I gained 67hp with the install to a total output of 512hp, and a rich air to fuel mixture! The car is running pretty rich on acceleration. I followed the recommended break in period as stated by Chevrolet for 1500miles. At this point i'm clueless on what to do. I even tried resetting the ECM as stated by some and it feels faster but i guess i'll have to go back to the strip on a cool day to see if my time better or get it dynoed again to check the air to fuel mixture and power reading. Any suggestions are highly welcome please. I hope that someone on this site with a ZL1 might have had the same issues solved. |

A stock ZL1 M6 should dyno right around 490-500 rwhp.
Who installed the stage 2 kit and who tuned it after? |

car is way down on power unless that is a heartbreaker dyno. you are working with 22% drivtrain loss by you numbers.
you should be at literely like 575-585 whp. do you have any datalogs is the cars IAT2's high or any knock? I would have the car retuned.

Lots of factors go into et's, but trap speed is usually a little easier to nail down. I agree it seems a bit low. What's included in the stage two kit? i'm assuming a pulley and cai and tune. If it's running very rich that's not helping things. Are you racing on stock tires, and are you letting it cool off between passes or hotlapping? I lose about a tenth and a mph each hot lap I run. It will pull timing pretty hateful if it's not cooled off between runs. Is the tune some canned one from lingenfelter, or was it custom tuned? Sounds like tune trouble

I have a roto fab, ported v max, muffler delete, no tune and my best time is a 12.3. So yeah your power is way down with a stage 2 install.

my tuner flies to Indiana to resolve these tuning issues at Lingenfelter. He does mail order tunes and can get you straight. Check out my sig.

if you tune is fat that needs to be corrected. IMO saying they can't tune your car for two weeks is pretty lame. I would contact ted jannety or one of the other vendors see if you would have him look at the datalogs. maybe buy a part from him or somethign for his time. I can't understand how a company as big as lingenfelter can have no tuning on site for 2weeks that is crazy.

The car dumps fuel well of the charts that the sensor can read hence the straight line on the air/fuel graph. Last edited by jalloor; 05-15-2014 at 05:53 PM. |
