Hopefully they total it for you. Relative of mine had an airplane hanger fall on a bunch of his exotics/high end cars in the hurricane, and they totaled all of them; that was a pay check and a half...

Sorry to hear shout this Dr ZL1. I feel your pain because I just got mine back last Friday from getting rear ended on the Saturday before Thanksgiving. While sitting at a red light, a guy claims he fell asleep hit a woman in a mini van that was behind me. She was pushed into me. Mine was not as severe as your but still feel your pain. I too am asking for diminished value since I only had just under 6500 miles since May when I picked it up. Luckily my damages were uner 5k, but still hurts the value. I am now waiting to hear back from the owner's insurance company which is USAA. I have already been in contact with two different companies that deal with diminished value evaluation. One of them called and told me that USAA is the worst on paying out. So I am preparing to get a lawyer. I hope all works out for you.

Just from looking at the pictures, I’d say it’s unlikely to be totaled. Unless the engine was damaged or the frame rails were bent, I just don’t see the repair costs getting into the range they’d need to be for the insurance company to consider it a total loss. It all comes down to dollars, unfortunately.

And I really hate to say this, but the car will never be the same. I’m not a body guy, but I deal with fixing cars for body shops every now and then. I’ve seen some horribly damaged cars get fixed by insurance companies. I’ve also seen a LOT of problems and just poor quality work done by body shops.

I’m really sorry you have to deal with this. People suck at driving, and I’d be seriously pissed off if it happened to me. If it were me, I’d go after diminished value on it, then trade it in when you get it back.

greatly appreciate all the input and messages from people. Working out the issue of it being towed incorrectly and having drivetrain checked out before anything else proceeds.

Again thanks to everyone for the kind words and the advice.

This, sort of, pushed a 3 month old Subaru STI into the totaled category back in 08. When one the wheels was locked in the wheel well and drug for about 100 feet when I was t-boned. I asked the appraiser how much a new trans and diffs cost, he didnt know, I asked him to call Subaru and chat with them about the possibility of it needing a new drive line... Subaru agreed with me to the tune of almost 10k if it was screwed up. The appraiser didnt want to touch it with a 10 foot pole anymore... Totaled.

If they dont total it, I would love to see the supplement once they start tearing it apart. They are going to find LOTS of odds and ends to replace.

Also make sure to get the shop time estimate.... in my case above it was ~90 days(I was already almost 30 days in a rental car), so 120 days x $30 a day... All the numbers add up to the final amount.

Wanted to update everyone. After the wreck, being towed improperly and being rained inside of for two weeks, it looks like insurance is gonna go ahead and total it!!!

This sure has been a learning experience.

Sorry for your lost, but I am glad insurance totaled the car. Hopefully you won’t loose too much to get into another one.

While I know it sucks to have your car destroyed like that, it's still great to hear they are going to most likely total it. Best thing for all involved, especially you.
