When it comes to gas mileage which I check out of curiosity from time to time (not somthing I dwell on or worry about) - I notice its the average mph on that tank that makes all the difference. When I average 40mph or better then the mpg's are above 20. When I'm below 40 mph average then I'm below 20. Common sense I guess - the slower on average you go the worse the mileage (more idle time, more stop and go, less steady speed driving). So those who have driving routes that don't allow a decent amount of steady speed driving are going to have lousy mpg. Its that simple.

Note: my comments do not apply if you rip through the gears the entire tank of gas!

So my options are low mileage used 1SS, a new LT1, used older Corvette or other older muscle car. I don't need any options other than V8 and rowing the gears. I love to drive, drive with the windows down, hear the engine rev, shift through the gears, feel the acceleration. My phone is in my pocket, and that is where it stays until I stop and park. Basic music on only on trips. I don't really care about tracking, super stereo, leather seats, etc. My current 1LT Camaro is very luxurious to me.

So, being close to retirement I worry somewhat about operating cost and insurance if I upgrade. My 2016 1LT is dirt cheap to run and insure. But you only live once- and to experience the V8 seems to be amazing to me.

Has anyone else made the upgrade from a turbo 4 or V6 to an SS or LT1? Difference in insurance and gas consumption (with the SS or LT1 taking premium which is about 1.00 more a gallon).

I have the option of also going with an older Corvette also- I am not sure if the insurance would it be lower or higher than a Camaro? I read somewhere that convertible Corvettes are low to insure?
Not sure exactly what you're wanting here but here is what I did. I have a 2000 Camaro SS that's completely built and about 700 hp. Got the car as is more or less for 12k. It's in emmaculate condition, reliable, super cheap to insure, and sounds and runs like a complete beast. For my daily I wanted something that looked cool, but was as cheap as most any new car, so my 2018 RS V6 gives me that. In this way I get the best of both worlds at a much lower cost than with just a newer SS or LT1 alone. Just a thought...

Insurance is easy get a vin number from a 8 cylinder Camaro online give it to your insurance man I did before I got my v-6 to be sure before I bought it.
As for gas you know how much you put in each month, just figure out how much more premium is where you live 20,25 cents more a gallon whatever and figure it out from there. You also know gas will be back close to $4.00 a gallon by the end of 2021 it’ll only be a matter of time before it gets that high again.

Operating costs are not too bad for my Camaro although I came from a truck so that is probably why and insurance is actually cheaper for me by a small margin. I only have 91 octane at the pumps around me so I never seen the car on 93 and I haven't been able to try the Xylene route yet. Premium 91 octane at the moment is 1.99-2.08 depending on which pump you go too which makes it about a 30-35 dollar fill up. Mine runs good and is really fun to drive. I had its first oil change a few months ago covered by GM. Next oil change is going to be about 100-130 bucks which is about how much the truck I had before cost since it also ran synthetic so no worries there. I purchased mine new and had it since February currently have 2100 miles on it.

My ss is way cheaper than my pick up truck in costs on everything. Gas, fuel, insurance, maintenance, initial cost ect is a lot less. I would also not waste time with the lt1. Now that dealers have camaros back in stock around here the 1ss models are selling for the Almost the same price as the lt1

One thing I miss about Missouri is cheaper gas! Here in FL we don't have the 91 octane premium, just 93! The 93 down here is about $2.70 a gallon right now!

$2.70 for 93?

I'd be ecstatic!

We only have 91 here in CA and I paid $3.09 for it at an Arco. That was the cheapest gas in town by a mile. Normally it's $3.40 at least for 91.

Gas is bad out there. At least wages are higher out there to help make up for it!

I’m sure there’s an economics & civil government lesson in there some where.

Found a place that has E85 the other day, & it’s only over 1hr away.

It was 6¢/gal less than 87 Octane @ $1.93.

And it does not apply on an LT1 powered m6 Camaro running @ 65-70 mph on the highway all day. I have seen 30+ mpg driving to Florida. But once you get back to normal driving I see less than 20 MPG. This car is too much fun driving with an eggshell under the gas pedal.
