Of course they are, you said Nitto recommended running a G2 on the front. My point was, of course they're going to recommend their own tire. They're not going to recommend you run a better tire like a Michelin on the front. |

All that being said, for most people I would say the 555r2 is going to be a better all around tire even if it ends up having slightly less traction from a dig. The stiffer sidewall, higher speed rating, stabillity, and longer tread life make it worth the trade off for those that drive their cars daily. Quote:

My experience has been that the 555R2s hook up better than the 555Rs.

What tire pressures? Did you compare both from a dig and roll?

I'm pleased with my 305/30/20 RII's so far. I'll run them more next month so I'll report back.

Good to hear man thanks for sharing. Let me know about those digs when you can. Also have you tried a first gear roll at 30 mph? Maybe even a 20 roll? Wonder if they would still hook. If they lose traction at those low speeds do the R2s recover quickly enough and take off well? With the performance mods that you have to your SS it seems like your car is up there in power like the ZL1 if not more, so if those tires are hooking decently at your power level then it must say something. |

I was always curious as to why people could run the same tire and have different results? Even if it could be the same exact car with the same power and same psi. There must be other factors involved as to which tires put the power down better for some people. |

Of course there's other factors. None of us are scientific enough to document every factor that could make a difference though. My car is a 1000+hp Hellcat so its pushing the limits of a Nitto drag radial about as far as you can go.

I just installed these tires on my 18" wheels. Initial impressions...great on road feel. The first time at the track on them, they hooked up pretty well on the first pass... After that, it was a little sketchy. The track prep wasn't the greatest so that could've been a factor.
My next time at a different track, I was struggling to get traction. Again, maybe the prep wasn't as good as could be. I did manage a spinning 1.62 60' though. I will give them another try tomorrow, if they don't work, I will consider moving on to a set of MTs. I'm not trying to say these tires are bad, the rubber feels very soft, I'm willing to give them a chance. I am definitely happy with the way they feel on the road.
