'17 ZL1 - Dead Battery....again.
Had warranty replacement of battery in April after car was in storage for winter (on/off trickle charger), and completely dead battery again! Car sat for 3 weeks when I was on holiday and wouldn't start. Another warranty replacement...but has anyone else had battery issues when car sits for extended periods and not on charger? Now I know it HAS to be on trickle charger or placed in "transport" mode. Dealer tells me sitting for longer than 1-2 weeks will start to kill battery due to constant drain from alarm and other systems.

Never heard of Transport Mode, but then again, I'm not totally sure about all the bells the whistles this car contains.
When I had my car in for detailing and paint protection film, the detailer left the key fob in the cup holder. That completely killed the battery, requiring replacement. If the key is inside the car, it will kill the battery pretty quickly. That's all I have for you. |

Any time I park something for more than a week it is on a trickle charger. So much is running on these new cars that it will drain the battery.
Now my 89 wrangler.....can leave it sitting for months |

Due to my audio needs/habits, battery upgrade is mandatory for me in every vehicle I purchase.
I upgraded to the Interstate AGM Super Premium MTZ-48 H6. Perfect size and fit for our vehicle, 930 CA, 730 CCA Expensive, but worth it IMO, especially if you are running any accessories

Mine has sat for 2-3 weeks at a time without any issues...usually during deer season & I'm always in the truck. I do my best to jump in her at least once a week.
Take into consideration that My garage is climate control so my batt never endures extended time be it heat or cold..friggn 104 today!! |

Zed, you might just have to buy a new battery since yours won’t hold a decent charge and you do have a 2017 which is almost 3 years old now. Good luck!

One of my buddies did the same a couple times and it was the OnStar. He replaced the rear view mirror and it stopped. When you shut the car off look inside and make sure the indicators on the mirror go off.

Both my GEN5 car and now my GEN6 camaro stay on a battery tender when not in use. I had the dead battery issue too many times with these cars out the blue. Gen5 camaro had a warranty replacement on the battery. Still didnt trust leaving it un-plugged.
They arent my DD, so they sit sometimes weeks at a time in between uses.

Make sure your battery tender is still working correctly too, I've had one go out before, it appeared that it was charging, but the light never changed to green.

bad battery if it reads 10 VDC off the car. Full charged battery at rest is 12.78VDC.

First winter I stored my SS, the battery died a few weeks into spring. I had it on a battery tender all winter in the car. Battery had to be replaced.
Last winter, I took the battery out over winter and put it on the tender in my basement. No problems in spring. I live where it gets -35 F in the winter, so take it for what it is. |
