my 3-2 downshifts, regardless of mode or rpm, have always been smooth. However, they do cause the car to surge forward a bit. It's almost like rev matching a manual, with the car still in gear, just not as pronounced.

I don't recall the car ever shifting into 2nd gear coming to a stop (it instead waits for 1st).

my 1-2 shift is fairly rough when the car is cold, regardless of mode, even if I'm babying it in a parking lot. I overlook this though as my other 3 cars are the same way, even back to my 07 toyota yaris (it even says in the manual that this car will shift hard, and later, when the transmission is cold).

usually the way I shift when I'm coming to a stop, I'll shift into 7 in anticipation, then I'll double tap to get to 5, let the car slow a bit, then double tap to get to 3, and that's usually good enough. by then a shift into 2 doesn't really slow me down much more than the brakes I'm already applying. I'll usually only downshift into 2 if I'm crawling in traffic or in a parking lot.
