DIY PPF?

Admins/Mods - I couldn't tell if this would be appropriate for a different area. Please feel free to move if warranted.

Does anyone have some decent information on a DIY PPF product and process? I've been talking to a couple of local shops, different products, and their prices seem absolutely insane to do the front bumper and partway up the hood of a 2SS.

If anyone has done a DIY and also had to remove material, I'm especially interested in what's involved in that as well.

If you have links to product and good places to purchase as well, that would be appreciated. Thanks!

On our cars I would leave it to the professional if you want it to look good. My guy uses laser cut film so that it has good fitment. It also takes an art to install. a gen 6 camaro is not where you want to learn how to do it.

Good luck though. hope the best for you.

The front of a camaro is very hard to do is what the guys who did mine told me, Because of the angles and shapes. So I recommend leaving it to the pros. And if you’re gonna do the hood , do the whole thing or nothing , otherwise you’ll have a horrible visible line.

If it's a difficult install, I can respect that. At $2000 and up to do the front end, though, I will just skip it.

Check around, I found a highly recommended guy that quoted $1200
for front end, behind front wheels, lower 1/3 of door to back of car.
He will do Xpel ultimate, but prefers Suntek Ultra.

Shop around, I had a very reputable shop (in SoCal (read: expensive area)) do PPF (Xpel) on my entire front end (full bumper (including lights), full hood, full fenders, mirrors, full rockers (up to the horizontal line right in front of the rear tires and the lower 4-5" of each door (up to the first body line) plus the luggage area of the trunk for about $1,600 (they did a full clay bar and polish of the entire car prior to the install).

It came out great and I am very comfortable driving the car knowing it now has a lot of protection...

All the red areas (except the actual grill or the hood vent) covered in PPF (Xpel) (plus the truck luggage area)...

Yeah, definitely still shopping around as the $2k price tag seemed outright stupid for what he was going to cover.

I've reached out to a detailer that I know to see if he works in conjunction with any installers to try and get everything done all at once and for a price that won't be so ridiculous.
