Higher Octane drive today, WOW

I decided to do a half fill up with 101 Octane and 1/2 91. Went for a 90 mile drive and went thru 1/2 tank.

Holy shit does it wake up with more octane. There was a noticeable peppiness and power increase and the exhaust note took on a cleaner/crisper tone.

Stupid ass CA 91 Octane does NOT do this car justice.

I did a similar thing in my previous Mustang. Pretty cool witnessing what a stock engine is like when it’s able to run optimized.

76 Station at Almaden Expressway & Foxworthy

There are 2 other locations as well...

76 Station in downtown Saratoga & Sunol Super Stop which carries 93, 96, 100 and I think a couple more.

i knew about the both gas stations Sunol and the other on Foxworthy.I live a few blocks aways from the Foxworthy gas station.I have put the 101 octane in my 69 SS 396 Chevelle a few times but never in my Camaro.I will need to try it out.

PS are you local to the Willow Glen area of San Jose?If so we get a group of us and hit the Bay Area back roads.let me know if you are interested.

Is E85 readily available near you?

That's pretty much the same experience you will have on E all the time.

I thought our motors weren't flex fuel capable without a kit??

I'm more N. SJ, but not too far. Yeah man, we should do a drive sometime. I went up HWY 1 yesterday.

My favorite is the back side of HWY 9 beyond the summit and into Boulder Creek, but you have to pick your times because it is no fun stuck behind slow cars.

They’re not. Manual even states it.

He may have a flex-fuel kit installed?

I am one of those people who won't be convinced without a dyno run.

Anyone?

I doubt there is an actual power improvement and the feeling comes from a cleaner burning flame, if lower octane adds knock and makes the engine run rough, it's safe to assume increasing the octane a bit does the contrary, and as far as I've read, Cali has really bad gas, half 91 half 101 should be around 96, wonder how that compares to 93 in Florida

It’s pretty common knowledge that a stock LT1 will usually see some timing retard on 91 octane fuel. This absolutely costs some power. Running 93 or higher will allow more timing advance. This allows the ECM to bring the timing advance back in to what GM called for, restoring the power that was being robbed by the timing retard.

Correct. The engine needs a flex fuel sensor and a tune.

I'm not sure how you went from "I don't feel it will improve power" to explaining exactly how it will improve power without realizing your opinion did a 180. Like Josh said, less knock, more power.
