So, the car is home.
The trailer worked quite well overall, but I don't think I would do it the same if I had to do it again. There really isn't anywhere to secure the rear end, so your options are to leave it loose (which I did, and it predominantly sat still for the 140 mile drive home) or figure out a way to strap it. I was considering purchasing basket straps but ended up skipping it because A) I really didn't have enough time to order them, B) I wasn't sure about putting outward pressure on the wheels, and C) they would be a one-time use product. Using 2 2x8's under the front wheels raised the front end plenty high enough, but it was actually almost too high. If I had to do it again, I would use a single 2x8 and remove the air dams from the car. This would allow more of the tire to press up against the front of the trailer AND the basket strap would come more than halfway around the tire. All in all, I'm happy I dragged it home myself even though I had to drive through some of the worst rain I've been in in a very long time. |

after seeing those pics you could have pulled the boards under the front tires back a bit laid 2 2x4s or maybe 2 sets of them drove up against the front stops so the tires were only on the 2x4s pulled the boards you have in pic out and back up a bit and take 2x4s out and you would be sitting on trailer as you just needed the wood to get air dam over from lip plenty of room to back up a bit to get in to trailer tie down area. or use this method to get one board out for next time. then to back off reverse process. Glad you made it safe

Yay...Congrats on the successful mission. FWIW I didn't tie down the rear at all when I used the Uhaul trailer for a 6 hour ride to Watkin's Glen and back home again, and it too survived. I bet you're glad that ordeal is behind you. Enjoy!

Yep, that's the car I thought you were buying (They have an A10 with the same colors)
As well, I had a feeling you'd be caught in that storm, it was pretty nasty. Was opening the door and getting out difficult while on the trailer? I'd have to clean up that garage.. your car is so nice (clean and white) it looks out of place in there Congrats on the new car! |

I also used a uhaul auto transport to pick up my 2020 ZL1. Spacers in the coils and one 2x8 under the front wheels gave me plenty of clearance for the front of the car. While loading the car I had the rear wheels of the truck on my service ramps and 2x8 boards to limit the ramp angle going up the trailer.

It has been a work in progress for the last couple of months. The last week or so was a LOT more intensive to throw out all kinds of accumulated stuff because I knew I needed the room for the car. It will continue getting cleaned as time passes... The only thing that's a tad on the "disappointing side" of the whole experience is that this car has been sitting on their lot for 9 months-ish as it has a August 2019 build date. I would liked to have been able to have either gotten a better deal on it or gotten one built more recently. But, it's done and I'm happy overall. And, yes, they do have basically the same car with an auto. Not interested in that at all, especially with the heavy uplift of cost to get it. Knowing that this car is the only one like it that had been sitting on a lot is why I was keeping quiet until I actually took delivery. I didn't want to someone to offer full MSRP and steal it out from under me. I haven't seen rain like that in at least five years... Wow. |
