2016 Mustang GT. Sell now or hold until November for potential incentives?
It’s a 2016 Mustang GT with 85,000 miles. Have a build currently with Joe. I’m guessing the 2021 Camaro will be ready November to December. Part of me wants to do a quick and easy sell to an AutoNation type place now and not risk an unexpected major repair. Then I wonder what are the chances of a Mustang Conquest, Trade-In type rebate returning to close the year out. What would you do? Sell now or wait and see?

Used car market is hot now, it may or may not last. IF it were me I would move it while the moving is good.

I don’t think you’re going to see any Mustang incentives or anything better than $1,750 for a while. Dealers in my area really don’t have inventory on Camaro SS’s. Out of the inventory they had, all but 1 car has sold whether by local sale or traded to another dealer within the past week or so.
Because of the used car market I would consider selling now vs later.

My 16 GT has about 45k miles and I'm starting to run into issues. Nothing major, but recently a head gasket went bad under warranty and now the wiring harness in the trunk area broke causing the backup camera to stop working and the trunk to not open. The stealership wants nearly $300 to fix it and it apparently isn't under warranty even though there is a TCB out on it. Some guys on the Mustang forum say try to fix it yourself or take it to a local shop or even a car stereo installer. I think I'm going to order the harness and try a car stereo place since they have more experience with wiring stuff. I want to trade it in before the brakes or something else needs replaced, but just put an offer on a house (with a garage!) so maybe in a couple months or I may just wait until Spring at this point. Still trying to decide between a Challenger, Camaro or 400z. That Mach 1 looks cool too, but sounds like its going to be way too pricey and its barely more than a GT with a tune and some handling bits.

If you’re wondering, for my no options base 2016 Mustang GT w/M6, 83,000 miles, triple yellow. Above average exterior condition, excellent interior condition, 2 moderate accidents. Carmax - $18,7xx Vroom - $17,8xx AutoNation - $16,3xx Carvana - $12,3xx Had some other offers in that range but Carmax and Vroom were the clear number 1 and 2. Bought the Mustang brand new almost 5 years ago for $27,3xx, under $30k out the door. Only losing $10k’ish 5 years, 83,000 miles later, not to bad. Dropped it off at Carmax last weekend. The Mach 1 ($52,915) = Mustang GT ($35,880) with PP2 ($6,500), Power Pack 3/GT350 manifold ($2,395), Tremec TR-3160 ($4,500, going rate for new trans w/conv kit). Grand total of $49,275. Add in ground effects and a decal package, Mach 1! Nothing about it excited me hence why I gave it zero consideration. Even though the GT350 manifold will give you a slight peak horsepower advantage and makes power till about 7,800rpms, the 2018+ GT manifold has a much better mid-range and outperforms the GT350 manifold until about 7,400-7,500rpms where it dies off. There’s no performance gain with the GT350 manifold N/A. Outside of the TR-3160, it’s just meh to me. Last edited by seethruya; 10-22-2020 at 08:21 PM. |

I keep getting letters from the place I got my Mustang from wanting me to "upgrade" to a new Mustang GT for only $57 more than I'm paying now. I don't understand their math as by my calculations a new one should be a little less, not more. Granted they are saying my estimated equity is just over 8k and I think its more like 10. I only owe a little over 12k on it and and trade in values look to be around 22-23k for a premium GT in good condition with 45k miles on it. The other thing is the financing, which is low, but I got the 72m at 0% interest and really hate to give it up, but don't want to start paying for repairs either. I can't believe its been another month and I still haven't gotten the wiring harness fixed. I've had too much going on trying to sell my house and find a new one.

Update: I just got another one and this time it is looking more reasonable. It is stating upper $400's for a payment (or about $60 less than I'm paying now). I think it has to do with the trade in value going up slightly and the fact I've paid on it a few more months too. Plus they are offering 0% interest for 72 months. I'm still wanting to get a Scat Pack more and possibly the new 400z, but looks like it won't come out for awhile yet. BTW, Dodge is also offering 0% interest, but you can't combine it with the rebates, while Chevy is still stuck at 3.99% interest.
