Your Opinion on Diamond Plate
Hello all!
Let me start by saying happy holidays! I have been throwing the idea of making diamond plate sill boards for my Camaro. It would give it a tough look but what is you guys opinion? I would like to find black diamond plate and make them out of that. It looks good in my mind. |

Just an opinion, but when I think diamond plate I think of a truck bed tool box.

Hey that's what I want is opinions. And I think diamond plate looks "tough" and no one else I have seen has it.

Everyone's opinion is their own personal preference, you like the diamond plate so you should go for it! Mine is to remain with the OEM sill plates. Merry Christmas

Your common Diamond plate aluminum is .063 thick # 3003 h-14 aluminum, raw polished finish. Sheetmetal shops purchase in 4 x 8 or larger sheets, could sell you a falloff strip or cut/ cut & bend to your specs. There is also sticker tape and the plastic chrome stick on versions sold by truck supply places. You could search for a black stick on version, but never heard of it. Likely could find it in vinyl wraps though. You'd likely have to paint or powdercoat metal to have black.
In small amounts ,I think diamond plate has it's place & can look tasteful. I also think it's much cooler when everyone else isn't doing a certain something with it, such as imports were doing with floor mats. Here's an old pic of a front spoiler I made partly as a joke or a dare to temporarily replace my damaged part I had . I never managed to hear anyone truly insult it, like I have my 2010 Camaro nose conversion, so I think that shows diamond plate can have it's uses. Food for thought. |

That front spoiler looks boss. I have found aluminum plate here http://diamondlifegear.com/diamond-plate-aluminum.htm they sell it in chrome, frost, black, blue, and red. It's anodized. I just want something different. I grew up on a farm and I always loved the look of the tool boxes.

I have looked at the kick plates too. I might get some because my boots are always hitting there.

Those mats are awesome. But I can't part with that much for floor mats. Awesome as they may be. I would rather use the money on other mods. Lol. I could probably make em for cheaper if I had the time. I wouldn't be able to put a logo though.

The anodized plate would be a pretty good choice, looks reasonably priced considering the anodizing costs. Anodizing is used on many home door sills I deal with in my job & are pretty durable. They do fade from constant sunlight , which wouldn't be a concern for you. Wouldn't be hard to bend a set of floormats yourself if you wanted.
Anodized material in my opinion would give less of a home done look than traditional polished. I say go for it. Aluminum is easy enough to cut with a variety of methods . Spray lube for cutting blades definitely helps too. If cutting with hand operated tools , I'd cut face down. black sharpie markers could be sufficient to cover raw cut edges. |

Yah. My work has a metal bender I could use. I would have to put some card boar down to prevent gouging. And I would use omething more durable than sharpie.
