New ZL1 being delivered next week

I have a 22 Zl1 in white that's scheduled to be delivered next week. The problem is the dealer is about 250 miles from me and the highway is pretty heavy with traffic (central west Texas). I'm not sure how to get it back without chipping up the front end before the PPF can be installed. I was thinking about putting painters tape over the front bumper and maybe a few inches up the hood and the mirrors. Has anyone does this before? I talked to an Xpel shop that's local to where the car is being delivered but they need it 2 full days and that's not really an option for me. Any suggestions?

There is a picture on here somewhere where a guy put a bunch of blue painters tape for the same reason... It worked...

The big thing is, leave a LOT of room between you and the person you are following, this will give time for whatever their tire picks up to fall before hitting your car... Stay away from trucks and Jeeps...

I normally try to hang way back from traffic but this particular run down I-10 probably has an average speed of 80+ mph and everyone tends to drive 10 feet behind each other. I'll try and find the thread to see exactly what they did. Thanks for the feedback.

Congrats on new car. I took delivery of mine about 10 days ago, GM added some stuff that I did not order, Like the red knee pads, carbon shift knob and carbon dash. I am going to contest the red knee pads that clash with the orange car.

I saw that too, took him a while to apply but time well spent..
Its either cover her up or stick her in an enclosed trailer..

Mine got 4 small rock chips on the 175 mile drive home from the dealership back in February. On the hood. Oh well. Stuff happens.

I ended up finding the thread and it looks like he did a good job covering it before he took it home. I have major OCD so I want to make sure I get it right because I'd be pretty bummed if it got damaged just driving it back. I sent a PM to the guy that used the tape so I'll see what he thinks. In the same thread someone mentioned that Xpel has a track film also so that might be an option. I plan on getting the car home and doing any paint correction myself before I drop it off for the film.

Here's the photo of the ZLE I took for a drive back in 2017 to put some break-in miles on for the customer.

Worked perfectly. No idea how long to apply the tape.

I've used this stuff a bunch of times, very thick, stretchy so it's easy to put on, and easy to take off -

Your dealer did that, not GM. GM doesn’t just randomly add stuff to orders (they will take options away though). That’s a conversation for you and your dealer to have.

Why not trailer it back with a car cover?

Yep, the wind whipping on the car cover will beat the hell out of the paint...

Get the keys and ask the dealer to let you park it in a low traffic area in their lot until the sun goes down so traffic dies down. Probably your best bet besides using an enclosed trailer.
