Well if what pgust said is happening to you you may now have too much oil in your car now and your dipstick could have just been reading the level low before you added 5.5 qts.

You REALLY need to drain the oil in you car and see how much comes out.

Not sure when your husband measured the oil level in your car, but if it was measured when the car was hot you could have gotten an incorrect reading because all of the oil was not yet drained back into the oil pan.

For that reason, these engines are a total pain in the ass, but ideal they should be measured when the car has been sitting and is cool. If that is what your husband did, well then maybe it really was that low, but if it was I'd think you'd have other serious problems by now.

I'm not trying to worry you, and maybe you caught it just in time and everything is fine, but don't continue to drive much at all without doing an oil change.

Been there done that. Drain the oil, you should find that there is too much oil now. I now only check in the morning. I am going through on average 1.5 quarts every 5k miles.

My question is where does it even go? I never grasped that concept.

What should I do at this point?
bossbunny,

Very sorry to hear about your oil concerns as I certainly understand the displeasure you're feeling. I realize you're seeking community opinions, and wanted to extend an offer of assistance if needed. Feel free to contact me privately and we can get the process involving an official diagnosis started.

When I had my LLT it was eating Oil like crazy. I called dealer because I have aftermarket GM Major Guard warranty and they told me it's "normal" for these cars to eat a quart or more every 2000 miles... SMH

Sorry I have been out of state so I just got home where I can really look into it. Going to have an oil change this week (waiting for a day the hubby can go with) and going I see how much oil actually comes out). If it's more than what I added in then I will feel better. If it's only 5.5ish quarts then I'm going to get some tests run to see how healthy the engine is as well as take the GM Service Guy up on his talk offer. But I want to see what the oil change offers first. I will post back as soon as I know something.

^^This^^
Probably have an engine sludge problem where it is not draining back into the pan.

Vanishing oil

... and the outcome? #not-looked-at-dates-above
... can Engine Sludge be 'moved' in the Upper Induction Cleaning process Stage 1? Where you add to the Fuel first and change the oil after 200 miles?
