Coming home from C5F... Texas/Houston Guys
One the way back I know everyone is going their seperate ways... But I am heading back right after breakfast and would like to travel with a group if possible, I feel safer stopping for the night in a location with a few other cars... So does anyone have any ideas about where to stop or do you want to head out with a group?
I know Dangeruss and a few others mentioned this was something they would be interested in if we keep the pace up. Suggestion from Sir Nuke: Looking at the map, a good place to stop would be Fort Stockton, its about half way back, other than that...the next decent place would be Sanora or even farther would Kerrville. I am planning on stopping in Kerrville, that way after the previous 3 days activity, we will most likely be BUSHED, so those two streaches would be a more driver friendly drive. |

If you're thinking of stopping in Kerrville, you may as well push the extra few miles and stop back in San Antonio.
I think that's too far for one day's ride, though, and would rather stop in Fort Stockton or somewhere similar that has something to do that evening...

I'm pretty open, but would like to get more than half way on the way back. That way the drive home the last day won't be so bad.

oops.....I made a BOO BOO in the PM I sent you......LOL I was thinking of stopping in Fort Stockton.....That would be about a 11 hr drive from Arizona.....BUT the next decent place woud bel Sanora, another 2.5 hrs down the road, and that would bring our next days drive down to about 6 to 7 hrs. SO that looks like the thing to do. I looked up some places to stay in Sanora, and there is a Comfort Inn ($102/night) and a Best Western ($87/night) that both have good reviews.

Does that appear to be the consensus amongst those of us wanting to stop Sunday night?

The trip from Firebird to Comfort Inn in Sonora is roughly 12.5 hours on I-10 (according to Google Maps).
Depending on speed and how many stops we make it could be more (or less) than that. Thoughts?

well WE, the houston bunch in this thread so far, knew that.....and we were thinking that it would be better for us to run longer the first day, and make it easier on us getting into the Houston area. the other place to consider, which would have nice/decent places to sleep at would be Fort Stockton, which is about 2 to 2 1/2 BACK. There just isn't much in west Texas once you get past SA. lol

I like the longer option the first day. If we leave at say 10:00am, that puts us in the hotel around 11:00pm. I know it's a long stretch, but the next morning we get up and the drive isn't near as bad home. I'm taking the next day off to recoup, but my wife will be going back to work. I'd rather not get home really late that day. What do you guys think?
