YEP, this is a fact......if you go to the Tx DOT site for plates....and want regular Personalized License Plates, the link takes you directly to MyPlates.com....but if you want a Tx plate that has a College or Univericity (an addition $30/yr in addition to your regular registration), Special Organizations (an addition $30 or $40/yr in addition to your regular registration depending on the orginatation), or Sports Teams (an addition $30/yr in addition to your regular registration) ....these still come from Tx Dot.

The 10 year deal is the best offer, but you'd think a plate would only be the initial cost. Then its just a sticker every year past that.

basic personalized plates in Hays are still $40 over whatever your registration price is... for our 2002 SS and 2002 Firehawk, its about $95 each, driveout price.
there's no plate that Texas offers, IMO, that is worth over $100/yr |

I'm curious how the 10 yr option is even possible considering that I thought the state required you to get replacement plates every 6 or 8 years due to wear and tear, as well as diminished reflective surface, on all license plates... maybe that doesn't apply to custom plates?

OMG I love you BB! I hope you make a choice you're happy with! I have to say that is outrageous but you make me even more greatful I am a gulf war combat veteran medically retired, I almost forget how cool it is I get to choose from several cool military disabled veteran plates and pay $3.00 registration each year! I'm so greatful for that! Proud too!
I get to park anywhere I want and free toll roads in some places! BUT STILL DAMN that's WAY TOO MUCH of an outrageous price!

Bunny,
Here are the plates you'd have to choose from that are cheaper. https://rts.texasonline.state.tx.us/...teOrderServlet |

The fee is just because of the "luxury" series or something like that. I have the black with the white star and paid $495 for 5 years to get it. I could have gone with the basic Texas plate or the "T" plate and only paid an extra $40 but the black plates just look so cool on the Pamaro! Keep in mind, that's just the fee for the PLATE, you still have to pay a registration fee or some other ridiculous fee each year (just got my bill for $78 to renew). Totally worth it, IMHO. I did like Nightmare and put it on a credit card and paid it off the next month.

I had a personal plate on the Cougar and I got the same letter.
They used my plate in the web site advertisement and I think someone else wants it. Who knows but there is no way Im paying $195 a year for it. So next month PANTHR will be available if you want to shell out that plus a registration fee. When I ordered the plate it was $44.....then it went up to $85 now they want $195? no thanks. Myplates.com can shove it up their assss

My friend was telling me about the stupid fees for customized plates in Texas. WTF. I'd give it up, too.
