Buy a new car sitting on the lot for a year?
Planning on picking up an ‘18 1LE from a forum dealer. Price looks good and it’s the car I want however I’m ambivalent with the build date. Dealer has two on the lot. One was built 8/2017 and the other was 10/2017 so both are at the year mark for sitting on the dealer lot. On a covered porch in south central US, temps >100 F. Less than 20 miles on both. Should I be concerned about the age of these vehicles sitting for so long on the dealer lot?

I'd be more concerned about why these vehicles haven't moved and what the dealership plans to do to earn your business. I would 100% use their longevity on their lot to my advantage. Everything else can be construed as a warranty issue. Have them look over the vehicle thoroughly before you decide to purchase it.

A car with a build date of 10/17 probably didn't even arrive at that dealer until late Nov or early Dec 2017. The first 6-8 weeks of a car's life is just in transit. The first ~4 weeks it sits in the LGR outbound staging lot waiting for the train, then another ~2 weeks on the train to the local yard and then a day or two on a truck to the dealer. So it's been sitting there only about 9 months... not 11.
Use some of the money you save on the buy to have a good paint correction done, to remove all the swirls the yard jockeys put into the paint with their dirty rags. |

I'd be more concerned about the paint than anything else. Also the engine compartment. I ran into the same thing and rejected an SS Vert that sat for a long time because the paint was badly stained from bird bombs and was covered with swirl marks. Also, the engine compartment was so filthy a detail would not have brought it back to new appearance.

Check it over real good, if you find any cosmetic issues tell them you want a "scratch & dent" discount or you walk.

Bought my vert from Richmond Virginia they had it for sale for a year! Had 100 mi on it, don't know if those were quarter mile at a time lol. The car has been perfect. The only paint issue I seen was some slight swirl marks that would buff out easy. Just buy and enjoy

I would be concerned if the historical weather for that area indicated exposure to flood waters..... Otherwise wouldn't hesitate to purchase.

Mine had sat for over a year. It has some minor weather marks in the paint and there was some plastic bags blown up in the engine bay, but the car was perfect otherwise. It's not uncommon at all for a car to sit on the lot for over a year. We have 6 here at work that are well over a year. For a $11,000 discount, I think a paint correction is not too much to ask.

As USAFS197 said try to use the time it has been on their lot to your advantage.
My 2011 Camaro was an early build and delivered to the dealership in 2010. Not sure exactly when in 2010 but they were motivated to sell when I purchased in February 2012. I got quite a bit off MSRP (see below). Yes that is what a 2SS MSRP was in Canada and it has only gone up. |

Pretty normal for a car like this...not everybody is running out to buy a car that has basically 2 seats.

Some owners sit their Camaro six months out of the year without driving it. They don’t seem too worried.

Should be no issue, just have them change the oil.

My son's 17 RS had sat about 400 days at a dealer in Arkansas. Transferred to dealer in NE MS. Changed the oil when we got it home with about 750 miles (602 in transit). No problems what so ever. Has a June 2016 build date. Paint is fine and I can't even tell when it shifts from a 4 to a 6 or back. Love the car. Now has 3700 miles after one year of ownership. Got a great discount. Arky dealer was glad to let it go.
