I think we will see both cars...whatever they are called (I'll say 1LE and Z/28) unvieled this year, and we will see them as mid to late 2017 models. Its not like we just saw these cars pop up on our radar....they've been testing them for months and months now.

I think they are going to be utterly amazing, but more coin than I can afford....the SS is plenty "amazin" for me...not to mention I will never track the car anyways.

As good as the SS is, and even with the optional brake package, there is still room for a 1LE. Magazines praise the current SS for its handlinge. Just wait until they throw on the wider rims with sticker tires, track oriented suspension, brakes, and gearing. I think the 1LE will be a very viable compeitor to the GT350 (not the R) if not better, for less price.

ZL1 was a first gen. 1LE had a longer run but both were originally sold in very limited numbers. As in 100 cars or so, I believe 69 ZL1 motors were put in the 69 Camaro.

Exactly, that was the goal that was met and surpassed when they benchmarked the Boss, which was/is a great track even with the straight axle.

The first gen car was a COPO car with the ZL1 engine. The 1LE has always been the 1LE.

I hear ya. Are you one that thinks 1LE should be its own model? I prefer it to remain a package because I love the fact that my car is also an SS. The SS name meant a lot to me cause of a friend that had a black fourth gen one and that car was amazing to drive with the 4 speed auto. A lot of people still don't know what a 1LE is but have at least heard of a Z/28 and I'm fine with that. Imagine how 3rd and 4th gen 1LE owners felt being able to have a car that capable and rare.

ya needs only to look left at my avatar and see what I'm rollin in now to know why I can't wait till the 1LE comes out

<--me, the extreme sort, likes to optimize variables within a budget stretched to the max. The 2014 CRV lives on one end of that spectrum, I believe the 2016/7 1LE represents the other end of that spectrum for me.

I'm really curious to see how well these stock SSs perform at the track(s). And I think we will see aftermarket modded cars, tires and wheels, etc., all adding to what the SS can do. If the new SS in stock form can outperform the 5thGen 1LE (I think we've heard/seen that already), then modified SSs should be killer.

I know the modding deal is a potential can of worms and controversial, but basically that is what a 1LE is. Chevy is already offering track up-grades that could have been held back for a new SS 1LE model....brakes, aero, intake, trans and differential coolers, etc. The point being, a 1LE might not be necessary if slightly modded SSs are already doing the job. And it already has the creature comforts missing from the current Z/28.

Que the ZL-1....Unmatched and untouchable....straight out of the box....Supercharged LT-4....Creature comforts galore...and king of the 1/4 mile...

I don't think we will see a hi-priced, bare bones, new Z/28 with the same power-plant as the ZL-1....I think the GT350 has made that idea something Chevy won't repeat with a new Z/28....Unless it can be had with a unique, track-monster engine.

Chevy could build a killer 1LE, but I don't think they will if they plan on making a Z/28 with the same power-plant as the ZL-1.

It's always been a package, so they should keep it that way. It would be cool if it got some badges though.

I've thought about picking up a 4th gen 1LE but they are hard to track down.

I wouldn't have thought it was possible but holly crap the new 1LE laps the road course 3 seconds a lap faster than the 6 th gen SS....

This new 6 th gen 1LE is certainly class leading for any sport coupe under 100 grand....with regards to track performance...

It's exactly what I would order ...if I wanted a 2 plus 2..

Very well done....

To answer the OP's question, "How much better can they make the 1LE".

We now know the answer is, a lot!

I've been saying it right along. ANYTHING can be improved.
