0-60 1/4 mile manual times real world SS and ZL1
Still can't decide if the extra money is worth it for the ZL1. I know it's all around better and it will have the wow factor and 200HP more but at the current prices, is it worth it compared to the SS?
Looking at a manual how much difference are we talking in times in real world conditions? I think I've seen both at around 4 seconds but I figure you guys know more. If the SS can do 4 in a perfect situation and most manual ZL1's can do 4's also. Might save the money and get the SS. I drove my buddies 13 ZL1 A8 and that is the fastest car I ever been in. If I'm wrong the SS nowadays is comparable in times? Plus I live in NY, so the thing will be in the garage with a cover on it for around 5 months a year. Maybe by the end of year sales I can make a decision. |

The ZL1 has been 11.6 or better on stock rubber. I think the best for an SS is 11.9. It all depends on how much you think that is worth. But if you're looking to drag race often.....get the A8. I can tell you from experience, these new cars are not that easy to make consistent.

Couple guys have gone 11.2, and I think even 11.1 in a showroom stock ZL1, stock tires and all. Dig around. It was in the last month. ZL1s trap 124-127 in average DA.? That ain't happening in an SS.

Probably will never track it. Just looking at manuals. Just don't know if the SS will be good enough which anyone could get or spend the money and have the bad ass big boy.

I Bought the SS because they didn't have the ZL1 yet. Now I'm ProCharged and just as quick.....still haven't invested as much as it cost to buy the ZL1. I'm definitely happy.

Since you want the stick shift, our members who've run those on dragstrips have reported best times so far of 12.1 second 1/4 mile for the SS and 11.6 second 1/4 mile for the ZL1.

Aside from power alone, the ZL1 handles considerably better than the SS. Apples and Oranges. Worth the money? Yup!!!!

2 totally different cars. Yes, it's possible to make more power with an SS and mods...but at the end of the day it's an SS with mods. The camaro is a great all around car, the ZL1 just pushes the envelope a little bit more. As stated, the ZL1 will run low 11s bone stock. Is .5 worth an extra 15K? I guess that's up to the buyer. After owning my 5th gen ZL1, I wanted an upgrade. The new ZL1 is just that. I have no doubt that this car will go 10s on street tires in the right conditions...I aim to prove that . I ran 11.3 @ 127 mph in hot weather. My 5th gen would pick up at least .4 and 4 mph in the fall when compared to our summer conditions.

There was a ZL1 at my track recently. I assume stock but not positive. He trapped 118 where as I would be trapping 111 this time of year in my Camaro ss. A few weeks ago there was a bolt on Camaro SS w/ E85 that was trapping 116-117. The prior generation ZL1s would only trap 115-116 in decent air.
