Footwell courtesy light socket part number

I would like to add some courtesy lights to the footwells. Just plain white lights that go on with the overhead lights. I already know where to tap into that circuit. As you can see from the picture taken under the dash, there is a flat surface with a rectangular cutout and a circular hole with 2 cut outs for twist tabs. I assume the rectangular hole is for mounting the RGB spectrum bulb and the round is for the factory courtesy light. There are similar cutouts on the passenger side.

The round hole measures 0.71" or 18mm. All of the T10 wedge light sockets I have found so far are for 12 or 16mm holes. Does anyone know either the GM part number for the socket that fits that hole, or where to find a 2-tab bulb socket that will fit an 18mm hole?

Help would be greatly appreciated!

Smile Courtesy light ?

How about this one?
https://www.digikey.com/product-deta...802-ND/2404084
It should mount perfectly into the hole you measured.
The only thing is that it uses T-2 slide base bulbs such as these-
https://www.digikey.com/product-deta...PSB-ND/3150652
And here is the dome to finish it off-
https://www.digikey.com/products/en/...=1&pageSize=25
This combination of socket, dome and incandescent lamp is reasonably inexpensive IMHO.

Or just buy one of these (LED)-
https://www.digikey.com/products/en/...=1&pageSize=25
The only thing is that it is a bit pricey at $17 and change.

The only other alternative I can think of would be to check places like AutoZone or O'Reilly in their "Help" parts section to see if something like this might work for you-
https://www.autozone.com/electrical-...ket/161487_0_0
I located the manufacturer's spec sheet for it (Wells 323) and have attached it.
It does appear to me that it could work, snapping into the tab slots (hopefully) and just clearing the sides of the hole as you have described it.
The problem is that the bulb will be protruding and will be unprotected, so use a small one and don't touch it after it has been on a while (or use an LED version).

I hope this helps.

Thanks for your help DIYguy. I'm sure there is a GM part that fits there, but I looked at a bunch of GM parts websites and couldn't even find a mention of a under dash courtesy light, except the $200 RGB light show.

Yes, I agree, there almost certainly is one but I couldn't find it either.
However if you check out auto parts stores they usually have a generic replacement parts section with repair sockets.
I'll bet they will have something that will work.

I did have a thought though.
You could use something like this and just glue it the hole after soldering wires to it, or use a rubber grommet or foam tape to retain it-
https://www.ebay.com/itm/4x-6000K-Wh...1db23f6ab8eeac

Or these because they won't protrude as much-
https://www.ebay.com/itm/10X-1157-ba...YAAOSwyNdc43bi

Because either one of them are compact and are LED they won't get all that hot and you should never have to replace them.
So why even bother with a socket?
That might be another option.

I think this would work better actually. I just ordered it give me a few days and I will see if it fits. Figure just solder a lead on each side and then your good to go. If it doesn’t fit I’ll look for something else and keep testing.

I tried something similar first. The diameter was too small to fit the hole well, and the tabs were not wide enough to stay in the hole securely. Also, the metal tabs are made to contact nodes on a printed circuit board and soldering to those tabs is not easy. Let me know how you make out.

ok so after doing a little more research
I will be attempting a 1156 socket. if I can find one local I will check it tomorrow but if not I will be ordering this one. hopefully this is it. Or it could be a t20 wedge (7440 socket) I will be ordering it for sure as I am very doubtful that I will find it locally...
