2nd Cat delete and Mid-pipe add to Dual Mode

Hi everyone - I am considering doing a 2nd cat delete and doing the mid-pipes on my 2017 2SS, with NPP dual mode exhaust.

Has anyone done this? Any advice would be appreciated. Any impact on warranty?

Thanks!

I've done it, with the Borla S-Type, it's awesome. Did it in my garage on the floor.

I've seen quite a few folks do this with the Borla system. I'd recommend Borla if you want a good sound and don't want to risk any drone. They have a few options for mid-pipes you can get them with the AFM valve or without and you can do the secondary cat delete or no delete so that the mid pipes run up to about 3-4" away from the secondary cat.

I wasn't sure what type of emissions issues a secondary cat delete may present (not sure why else GM put that there instead of a resonator) so I did the Borla mid-pipes without the secondary cat delete but with the AFM valves (part#60610) and I paired them with the Borla S-type axleback with NPP. Depending on what configuration you want here is the parts list and some sound clips of mine, if you go with the secondary cat delete it will just be slightly louder and slightly more raspy.

Gdgraph has a good clip, I watched his before my decision. I deleted my secondary cats. I have an M6, so there wasn't any need for the afm. I kept my NPP as well.

I would say my cold start sounds about the same, but that second post outside sounds really good! It has a much throatier sound w/ the secondary cat delete, I like it!

I'd consider doing the secondary cat delete if I wasn't already planning to eventually do headers, since I'm not sure which ones I'll get (green cats or no cats).

Thanks everyone. I am trying to decide between doing cat delete and x pipe, or cat delete and doing the mid pipes... Seems like its about 50 / 50...

cmeJATT - did you do Borla mid pipes, or built by the muffler shop?

i did a cheap man exhaust...

bought a flowmaster Xpipe for $240... had the muffler shop extend that pipe up to delete the secondary cat... cost me $150 to install xpipe and extend the pipe...

total i spent was $390 ...

it was on sale when i bought it lol.. idk look around to see if you can find it for $240 .. i got it on Black Friday.

If you go Borla it's going to cost you $600-ish plus install...

Borla is $$$, but you dont have to chop up the factory exhaust at all. That is one of the big reasons I chose Borla. Plus it sounds amazing.

+1, unbolt and bolt on. That doesn't come cheap for sure.

Exactly, the fitment will be perfect if you get the Borla mid-pipes, whether you decided to get their mid-pipes with or without the secondary cat delete. Took me less than an hour to do mine.
