Can anyone suggest a really good radar detector? I've only been on the forum since last month so I am not positive if this is a topic that cannot be discussed.
THnx

Valentine and Escort make the best. I used to follow radar detectors and laser shifters religiously. There are some good resource links in my sig. Some of the good testing websites for these seemed to have downsized or gone away.

I use Valentine 1 and have my Android phone automatically start Waze (app) when it sees that im connected to my Camaro bluetooth and plugged into power. I use the AutomatIt app for that.

Waze (owned by google now) has most of the LEOs spotted on the interstates.

Escort Passport Max360 just saved me Today from a State'r on the I-90. I had just merged into the left lane and gunned it when the first beeps started. Slowed down, got into the middle lane behind a work truck. The Subaru that was behind me in the left lane sped up to pass traffic.

About 1.5 miles later, I saw the State'r on the side of the road. Subaru slammed on brakes.

About 2-4 minutes later, I see him fly by pulling over the Subaru.

The end.

Forgive me, but I don't know how the headliner is attached. Could this make the headliner start to come off the roof?

I've used this mount on two different cars and it's out of the line of sight but easy to reach the buttons and has a clear view of the road , plus your window shade easily clears it. The GPS is on a factory mount but I removed the pin and turned the pad around backwards.
I hard wired the units on a single cable from the trunk off the heated seat fuse. I took the radio out and ran the cable easily under the dash. The usb cable plugs into a tiny phone charger in a stand alone accessory plug with a pig-tail. I tucked everything behind the insulation between the dead man pedal and the body.

Just hardwired my Uniden R3 to the front fuse box this weekend in my Fifty vert. Wasn't as painful as I thought it would be but finding the fuse harness was a pain.

Pick up my 2SS convertible on Saturday (can't wait), and am a huge fan of the Escort Max 360. Have previously used the V1 on a motorcycle and loved that - love the Max 360 even more. Great integration with the cell phone for feedback from other users for cops spotted, etc. Kind of like Waze.

Debating what I'll do with my 360 on the 2SS - not too crazy about mounting behind the mirror and tapping the power there. I like that mount that Blackbean posted above on the left side.

Blackbean - did you make that or buy it?

I have the R3 and very happy with it, wish it had arrows tell you where the threat was but it has yet to fail me. Mirror mount and hard wired to the mirror. YouTube it, it's a 10 min or less install. I'll try and get pictures later today.

danbrew I went out to the garage found a painted piece of metal from a different job , bent it and put a rubber bumper on the dash side . It's wedged between the a pillar and the dash. I put some heavy duty Velcro on the bottom of the radar detector and the other piece on the bracket. It's very secure. The bracket is about 2" wide.

I've got a Passport hardwired into the overhead light console and mounted to the mirror stalk. Works ok. I've had cops pull along side and hit their radar just to see if it was a detector, lol. People draft me all the time when they see it (long work commute).

I would affix a piece of black plastic or something that angles out from the display so you could glance over at it, but people behind couldn't see it.

I had an older Escort 9500IX on a windshield suction cup and eventually it would fall off on hot Florida days.

Blendmount.

I have it in my other cars and it is fantastic. Firstly because it centers the detector right under the rearview mirror that you don't have to have another place to look. Plus it makes it appear as though it is factory.

With my vert, I am having a huge issue trying to find steps on how to tap the mirror.

As for detectors, I still have my original Passport from my Trans Am, no I don't use it, but I have a Valentine 1.

I need a second detector for the Camaro, so not sure if I will get another V1 or look at bel-troncs Escort (can't believe Cincinnati Microwave is gone).

No question Escort was THE radar detector way back when, so will give it a look.

And if anyone knows how to tap the mirror in a 2017 Camaro Convertible, would be forever grateful!
