Active sound management
Does the 2019 Camaro 2SS have it?
The reason I ask is, a friend has a 17 Grand Sport and he says my Camaro has the same diamond shaped speakers on the doors as his corvette, which he says has ASM??? I know my Camaro has a sound tube, but ASM is something very different. Comments?? |

No comments huh?
A correction, I guess the little triangle things on the doors are microphones. They sample the noise in the cab and pump sound in to cancel it. Active sound management is called many different things, but the process it the same. I can't believe the experts on Camaro6 are silent. |

Here's a clip on how to disable it if that's why you're asking:

Quite a few threads about it on here already. Another option is to unplug just one of the door mics. 5 min job.

How exactly does active noise cancellation work on a 1SS w/o Bose? What is it actually canceling? Or is this just making the stereo louder when accelerating?
I know how it works on higher end models but I didn't know I had this? |

It plays low frequency tones to match and cancel engine drone and road noise.

No, I'm not interested in disabling it, just didn't know it was there.
Thanks for the info. |

Below is a cut/paste from the repair manual. I did not reformat it (sorry). I don't think all Camaros get this. Just the UQA and UQ3 systems. UQ3 comes with or without noise cancellation. If UQ3 has noise cancellation then it has both a T3 amplifier and a separate K108 noise cancellation module. UQA must be the Bose system, because it references noise cancellation electronics are internal to the amplifier. DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION > ACTIVE NOISE CANCELLATION DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION (NKC WITH UQA) The entertainment system on this vehicle may have several different configurations. To determine the specific configuration of the vehicle, please see the Service Parts ID Label, and refer to RPO Code List . The main components of the Active Noise Cancellation system are: 2 microphones in the vehicle door trim. Active Noise Cancellation electronics and software integrated into the audio amplifier The vehicle speaker system, connected to the amplifier, to output the desired cancellation frequencies The Active Noise Cancellation system is operational under the following conditions: The amplifier has passed all self diagnostic checks All doors are closed Battery voltage is between 9.5 V and 16 V The vehicle cabin temperature is less than 140°F (60°C) Engine speed is between 550 and 3000 RPM The Active Noise Cancellation system is a method used to reduce the perception of certain undesirable sounds generated by the engine into the vehicle cabin. The systems uses microphone and engine speed signals, software integrated into the amplifier, and the vehicle speakers to determine and generate the correct frequencies needed to achieve the desired reduction. Two microphones are located in the door trim to monitor noise/sounds in the vehicle cabin, and are directly connected to the amplifier. The amplifier also receives engine speed (RPM) via serial data. The amplifier processes these inputs to determine the frequency of the undesirable sound. The amplifier then calculates the appropriate cancellation frequency and outputs a cancellation signal (audio tone) to the vehicle speakers to reduce the perception of undesirable sounds by the vehicle occupants so the vehicle cabin appears quieter and without vibration.
