1LE audio upgrade (Audiocontrol, Hertz)

So after a ton of research on interfacing with the stock radio and overall sound control, I went with the Audiocontrol D-6.1200 amp and Hertz MLK 1650.3 Components.

(original setup)

Since the 1LE (2018, may be different for other years?) doesn't have a factory amp, I used an adapter harness from Gen5DIY to run High level input to the rear of the car. (For reference, the radio module is a PITA to get to. its in the passenger side of the dash, black horizontal box mounted to the metal frame behind the glove box. Green connector is all the way at the top of said box.)

From there, I ran a multi conductor cable from Metra to the rear of the car.

Local shops didn't have any of the Metra tweeter adapters so I made some out of stainless.

Used NVX baffles around the woofers

Soundskins deadening for the doors (yet to be installed)

And a good ol wiring shot

Still working on tuning the EQ and delays but so far sounds amazing and definitely better than stock.

New setup dec 2021

Initial design

Lc-1.1500, D-6.1200, NVX 10 farad hybrid capacitor, 1650.3 crossovers (front)

Hertz Mille 2500.3 subs

I know nothing about audio but the work sure looks great! And I can only imagine how much better it sounds too!

Thanks! This was definitely one of my best efforts at upgrading without too much modification to the vehicle, minus the trunk carpet. It was a fun project. Could really use some subs now, still in the planning stages on that.

It’s a very clean install and I like that you still have the full trunk. Does the amp get hot or can you put anything on top without concern?

Beautiful install work!
Can I ask, why are you running the front speakers passive? the AC has a DSP built in, so you can run active and set time delays properly.

You can still run them active through the crossovers, they have a bi amp setting. I can change it later with minimal wiring. I do plan on adding more mid/highs later, but for now just learning this setup. Also, the manual circuitry in the crossover gives me backup tweeter protection, in case the dsp decides to lose its settings or i misclick something.

For those that have the Bose amp, what connector/kit is needed to run new amps while keeping all the factory radio chimes and functions?

Mine is a 2021 so different, but I think this will work on your 2018: https://catalog.pac-audio.com/catalo...faces/ap4-gm61

Contact PAC just to make sure.

Thanks. I will look into this. My audio system is not of my liking but want to keep everything else stock with the head unit

Yep, for 2016-2018 Camaros, PAC is one of several options that allow you to extract a digital signal. This is a better option than the speaker-level inputs that we are stuck with for later cars (unless something new has come along that I haven't seen yet). The difference is that the 2019+ cars have completely different communication protocol, so the older interface don't communicate with that.

Just an small update. Ended up configuring the tweeters to active but still through the crossovers. Better control of delays, level, etc. In the planning stages of the subwoofer setup.

That audio control DSP/amp is very impressive. I had one installed and then went with the 10" version of this sub. Night and day difference, even with the stock speakers.
