Took my 1LE to the track yesterday...

I had fun - but I think it needs about 100 more wheel HP.

Where did you track it in CA? If we're talking road course and not drag strip, for reference a fully stock 1LE is capable of 1:50 at Buttonwillow CW13 in the hands of a great driver (1:34 at Laguna, 7:16 Nurburgring).

If you know BW you know that's a very fast time that beats good/very good drivers in Ferraris, McLarens, GT3 RS, etc. by several seconds. Again, with a great driver behind wheel of 1LE.

This car is not lacking in power, and adding power only helps you catch up or pass on the straights, at which point if you're not a great driver you just get in the way of great drivers with less power. If you get the most out of the 1LE's amazing grip and turn like a great driver, you'll beat 99% of drivers in any car.

If you're already capable of 1:50-1:53 at BW forget what I'm saying and add some power (it's easy), if you're not... IMHO work on turning skills for first.

Stock form in way capable but a little more power and noise is always fun. Id recommend a rotofab and headers back to the stock muffler with a flex fuel tune. You'll make around 630-650 wheel which is perfect imo for track days and on the street. These easy mods really wake the car up and you gain tremendous exhaust sounds and hearing the whine from supercharger plus keeping things efficient still and not adding extra heat from say smaller pulley.

I agree that power is very fun, but a flex fuel tune voids the warranty. It's tempting, but heavy track use on hot days makes things break.

After years of tracking a highly modified high HP car, the peace of mind from a full warranty high HP car on track is really nice.

Big willow. Down the straight speeds are 10mph off my old 5th gen ZL1.

Maybe due to a few things... the 5th gen in your sig was modified with more power than the ZLE right? The 5th gen doesn't have the ZLE aero which slows it some on straights. Last, did you add some 100 octane? At track I always add ~4 gallons per tank because I've heard a ZL1 on straight 91 makes about 25+ less HP than 93, I think Janetty confirmed this. Assuming same good driver back to back, a stock 2018 ZLE is several seconds faster than a stock 5th gen ZL1 on any track I've been on.

If you tune the ZLE on Flexfuel I'm sure you'll be happy with the results--it'll go from a scary beast to an insane beast.

You got lucky on Sunday, it was the only day it hasn't rained in several days right? I took my ZLE out for a nice drive on Mullholland and it started raining later :-)

it ran 1:37's all day.

I could have gone a bit faster, but I was on 1 year old tires and had trouble with slides. the 45-55 degree temps did not do me any favors on the corners. The last lap I ran I had a big slide accellerating out of turn 9 at at over 90 mph. at that point I called it a day. Im not interested in wadding up the car; but like to drive fast.

My old ZL1 dynoed 575 rwhp and was a 6 speed also; but was also 400 lbs heavier. exit speed out of 9 was about the same as the old zl1 (between 85 / 95 m[h), but i could only hit 135 / 140 at end of the straight in the 1le. in the old zl1 I would hit 145 / 150. I have no idea what the lap times in the old zl1 were.

Are you running GY SCF1 3Rs? If so, 1 year age is fine as long as you have tread left and they weren't heat cycled out on track by previous owner. If 3Rs with tread, you should have significant advantage in corner exit speeds over G5 ZL1. You also need track camber settings, at least 2.8 degrees front.

The ZLE is capable of incredible corner speeds, better than a track prepped McLaren 12C on GY3R according a guy who did 1:50s at BW in his ZLE, and now tracks a 12C on 3Rs.

Just trying to understand, so are you saying you want to add power so that you can reach the same speeds at the end of the straights so that you can go slower through the turns and not risk getting sideways at 90mph like you did?
