Broke Down at Track! What could it be?

My 2019 SS 1LE broke down at the track yesterday and is currently sitting at a Chevy dealership (it has not been diagnosed yet). OEM Oil Filter and Mobil 1 ESP on a stock manual transmission car. Wanted to get some insight on what others think it might be, here is what happened:

4th lap on the 4th session of the day. Car was warmed up. “Service Rear Axle” and “Service Stabilitrak” lights come on and I could feel something was off. I originally thought it was the differential. Go into the pits and check engine light starts flashing and I notice white smoke coming out of exhaust. I let the car idle for 10 minutes temperatures stay in check and car does not overheat and no leaks from bottom of the car. There is a steady stream of light white smoke coming from exhaust. Coolant level is normal but the oil level seemed to have dropped, although Oil from the dipstick appeared normal in color. Drove about 10 miles to the dealership and left it there. Car seems to shake a little and run uneven. When I accelerate the oil pressure increases more than normal close to 60 just from slowly driving away from a red light.

A broken valve spring - maybe?

Good luck with the dealership and I hope its a quick and easy fix.

Keep us posted.

The folks at the track were between blown gasket or valve spring.

Update: Cylinder 2 has lots of oil in it. They will take apart tomorrow and see what the cause is.

Update: Service Advisor said it was a bent piston rod and I need a new cylinder head. Seems kind of crazy I am wondering if he ment pushrod instead of piston rod.

It must be a pushrod if the head needs replaced. A piston rod means opening up the short block. Do you know why the pushrod bent? Did you have a mechanical over rev on a down shift?

Good luck. It never feels good when a repair requires opening up the engine.

It does not you’re right. Not that I am aware of I rewatched the PDR footage and could not detect anything out of the ordinary.

Final update for anyone interested: Lifter failed, pushrod broke, valves were stuck open, cylinder hit the valve.

All new and took the tech 30 hours. Covered under warranty. Thank god!

Now im paranoid about taking it to the track again.

I wouldn't worry about it for 5 years, or whatever your warranty mileage is. That is the whole point of the 1LE. Running at the track is very hard on a car, at least you have GM backing it up. Sounds like you have a couple years on warranty unless your mileage is high too. I would use it!

Mileage is not a problem it is just a weekend car. But yeah I am impressed by GM standing behind their warranty.
