Yes.

I live in south Florida, so my average cold temperature is 75-80 degrees.

The 0w is for 0 degree weather and Mobil 1 has engineered packages and additives into the oil to provide oil flow at or greater than 0 degrees. IMO, you want oil to flow and get to all sections as quickly as possible. Once you start the car AND GET THE OIL TO OPERATING TEMP, the 5w and 0w means absolutely nothing.

My biggest reason for putting 0w 40 into my ZL1 is i occasionally do freeway pulls and/or spirited driving. LT1, lt4 and lt5 engines that are pushrods motors driven between 4800 - 6800 rpm, IMO, require steady lubrication due to the large mass of their rocker assemblies and rotating parts.

If you ever have a chance to watch cars live on a time course at homestead speedway or any other track with ovals and straightaways, you'll hear how the motors have to sustain high rpms for 8 - 10 seconds at a tiime.

THERE IS NO WAY IN HELL 5W 30 CAN TAKE THAT BEATING!!!...that was my point

It is the correct choice. A 0W-40 doesn't require a warm-up period on start-up and I agree is mandatory if you are running 280+ F oil temps on track.

Can someone please explain to me why I see so many state ZLEs and ZL1s as having different oil requirements on the track? No difference at all in motor right?!

Actually with Mobil1 the 0w40 is higher viscosity at lower published temp (40C) than 5w30. The second number has more overall bearing on total viscosity than the first.

It all started with Corvette and trickled down to Camaro.

ZR1 and ZLE pull more G-forces on track so have a different requirement. 0W40 for all other occasions.

I'm not sure who considers 40 C (104 F) cold temp. The bottom line is one of the posters saying you need to warm up your car with 0W40 for 2 minutes is garbage.
