MBRP Axle Back Exhaust

I know there are other threads on this, just wanted to give my two cents. I just installed an MBRP Race Axle Back Exhaust. I've never done an install before, wanted to do this with my 17 year old son.

Install: I watched several videos so I was already aware of what the process would be. Took about an hour and a half, which is VERY slow (for proficient folks I bet this is a 30-45 minute job). I took extra time with everything. Instructions are pretty good, but again the videos are key. Fit and finish is excellent. Very easy to get the exhaust on. Everything was tight and easy to adjust. Hard to tell from stock unless you are looking at the tips, but obviously the suitcase is gone so it looks SO MUCH BETTER from behind with the cool looking resonators (or whatever they are called).

Sound: Holy lord is it loud. Louder than I thought it would be, especially under throttle. I generally drive like a grandma in neighborhoods so not too bad, but man oh man when you get on it the noise this makes is WAY beyond stock. I love it! This is my toy, not my daily, this might be too much for a daily driver, but it sounds fantastic!

Performance: Virtually no difference, which is what I expected. Bought these for the sound, not for any HP upgrade.

Just to answer the question, axle backs do not require anything. No CEL light, no requirement to disconnect the negative battery terminal, nothing. Just install it and go.

Overall I'm VERY happy with this exhaust. Costs about 1/2 the price of most other axle backs. I think it's a phenomenal value.

I'm putting on a Tony Mamo Ported Throttle Body (V2 version) tonight. I'll give my impressions later.

I just bought a Kooks axle back with a similar small muffler. How much did your suitcase weigh versus your MBRP?

Good question. I didn't weigh either of them but the MBRP exhaust is definitely lighter.

Of note, the MBRP exhaust is for sale. Too loud for my area.

The OE exhaust on the ZL1 is fairly loud when you get on it. I would say that MBRP race is going to be way too loud. The NPP is nice that you can set it to Tour mode and be respectable when cruising...

Check out borla cat backs, they still incorporate the NPP valves and have 0 drone when driving on the highway. I must say I was a bit confused by this post coming back because you installed it, said its not your daily so you love the sound and than a month later said it was too loud haha but to each their own.

I added 2 MBRP 16” resonators to my headers/AWE Touring exhaust and it took the edge off enough for me to enjoy the sound. It’s still loud compared to other cars but not as stupid loud as without resonators. The MBRP resonators also took all of the rasp out of the sound and left the car with a nice deep rumble that sounds awesome.

Kooks weigh between 25 and 28#, and I'm confident the weight of the suitcase is on this site but searches don't find it

Yep, I planned to keep it since it's not my daily, but it got to the point that even though I only drive it on the weekends I was cringing every time I started it up. Plus I was worried that if I was anywhere near a cop I'd get pulled over. What I didn't really factor in was my desire to have NPP, which was what finally made me decide to sell it. I now have a Steel Works axle back on with NPP and love it.

Do a sound clip of that Stainless works if you don’t mind. I don’t think I have heard one.

The above video pretty much captures it. It's slightly louder than stock but sounds better. What the video doesn't capture is the DEEP sound it makes. Hard to describe, but almost a bass-like pulsing. Sounds really cool.
