Horrible experience, thoughts on situation?

I just wanted to hop on and share an experience with a bad dealership in belle vernon PA, i bought my car used with 50kish miles, a8 transmission v6. The first issue to occur was camshaft correlation issues, i continued to swap sensors and eventually the engine jumped timing, i put a new engine in, over a course of about 3 weeks the car sat with no power to the ecm/tcm, at the time i hadn’t
Thought about the fact that the tcm may have just needed reflashed. Was getting ‘shift to park’ issue. I had it towed to the chevy dealership, they told me the tcm was dead, and wasn’t sure why, 1300$ for replacement. Got the car back, on the highway the gauges starting going wonky, i pulled off turned the car off, hit the start button, got the ‘shift to park’ issue again. Car would not start, reflashed it and it fixed it. The tcm had a slightly loose connection aswell so i pushed it back in. So 1; i think the dealership ripped me off on a tcm/labor for it.

Now is the big money part. After i got the car back from the tcm replacement, the car had a really bad shudder, the tech test drove the car and said it was slipping first to second, which i wasn’t aware of and didn’t have problems with prior to the tcm being replaced, surely enough it was absoloutley horrible. Service advisor advised that i get the transmission inspected by their transmission tech, tech claims torque converter failure caused transmission to completely fail, (GM has a lawsuit or something going on with the 8 speed transmissions due to the fluid they put in them) service advisor advised the transmission needed replaced, 5100$ for a used unit with 80k miles on it from LKQ + parts and labor warranty. Told me if i ever had an issue to bring the car back, paid in cash. Finally went to pick the car up and Was advised by the service adviser that the transmission was still slipping first to second and still had shudder, told me it probably just needed time for the tcm to adapt, two weeks after transmission was put in, about 800 miles on the car i parked the car, got out, got back in a few hours later and the car refused to move. Towed back to the dealership and was told the transmission failed again, they told me they believe 1; i abused it, 2; that my exhaust caused the failure because my exhaust is welded instead of
Clamped underneath the car, and that lkq would only be warrantying it out of the greatness of their hearts, but that i would lose my warranty on the transmission.
They also advised me lkq would not be covering the labor, so i had to pay the labor out of pocket, again. (Another almost 2000$)

After waiting a month for the transmission to get there i find out the transmission they put back in it had a wopping 130 thousand miles, the transmission tech says to me ‘i don’t know how long this transmission is going to last, good luck’ the entire experience with the dealership actually made me disgusted.

Please don’t throw any more money at this car. Sometimes you just have to cut your losses, sell it and move on.

What year is the car?

Nothing has helped me understand the ire for dealerships as much as owning my Camaro has. Sorry for your experiences. If I had to pay for any of the work with the position I am in, I would go ahead and change brands/where I do business. Bunch of thieves

If you can afford to get rid of this Camaro then my advice is to do so and find another one if you want to stay with Chevy.

I’ve always been the guy to defend chevy, but this a8 automatic transmission issue being swept under the rug and the consumers having to pay large amounts of cash out of pocket is quite scandelous in general, it really made me think differently of chevrolet.

First step I would have told them to do the fluid flush for 300.00.. If the trans still was acting up, then I would have taken the car to a reputable performance shop and had the trans pulled for a rebuild and new converter. You could have had your OE trans rebuilt from a reputable transmission builder for under 3k. 5100.00 will buy a brand new A8 direct from GM.

They flat out ripped you off...it's how they make their money. Especially now since they haven't been selling near the cars due to lack of inventory.

Cut your losses asap or you’ll have to write up another post soon. That car is a lemon and the dealership employs dummies. I lived in PA for a few years and most of the people seemed nice, but I also saw trash. Foster House had those amazing King sandwiches back in the day. Good luck with your situation.

Sorry to hear about this. Sounds like a true nightmare.

I watched a YouTube video where a mechanic took apart an LFX V6 to show why they keep eating timing chains. He was saying it does not vent heat well causing the oil to break down before the oil change light comes on, causing the whole thing to gunk up. He said changing oil every 5000 miles and checking oil level every other week would probably avoid the problems those engines have.

Out of curiosity did you car come with the brembo brakes and extra oil cooler? Wondering if not having that cooler results in more fails.

On the GM authority website it says LGX started in 2017 for Camaro and 2016 for Cadillac cars. Did they make an error?
