yes it was known well in advance because the Quebec plant was closing as well.

My guess is that there was always a plan to build the 2024 with a special option package. However the supply chain issues and worsening economic outlooks GM is probably taking a wait and see approach the Camaro going out with a whimper on 2023 if things don't improve.

The beauty of GM’s Ultium skateboard platforms is that they can vary the width, they can vary the length, they can vary the wheelbase, and they can vary the top hat. They have two basic skateboards (BET for trucks and BEV3 for cars and crossovers) that they can use like legos to make whatever configuration they want. Look at what they’re doing with Blazer EV. You can get it as FWD, RWD, or AWD. That’s part of the reason they are going in this direction. Maximum product flexibility. The BEV3 Ultium skateboard is replacing Alpha, Gamma, Delta, Chi, Epsilon, Omega, and eventually Y-car platforms. Right now Ultium builds everything from Equinox EV to Cadillac Lyriq, with more to come, both larger and smaller than those bookends. The next Gen Bolt will be on Ultium. So will the Cadillac sedan replacements as well as CUVs in addition to Lyriq.

On the truck side, the Ultium BET replaces the T2 and 31XX platforms and will house vehicles from the size of Colorado / Canyon up to the gargantuan Hummer EV that launched the platform.
I hear you. I think there are pros and cons as it relates to enthusiast vehicles. Obviously reduced cost of sharing the platform is ideal but true sports cars tend to get their own dedicated chassis, Corvette, Miata, Supra, Z, etc. You definitely make compromises. I hope the Ultium architecture enables them to deliver exciting driving dynamics.

I am always surprised at how well my Tesla Model 3 handles. I would put it pretty close with my CT4V-BW and it doesn't have adaptive dampers or sticky Michelin PS4S tires. The low CoG of the battery does wonders for handling so I am optimistic GM can build a sporty and fun to drive EV.

Just a question out of curiosity. Certainly, history is not always an indicator of the future but it seems likely Chevrolet will do something on the last year. I just hope there is enough notice to provide me a chance to pick-up the last year with the same VIN as my 2002 Camaro SS, maybe it doesn’t work out though. Supply chain constraints should see more relief next year so I can’t see that being the reason 2023 is the final year, if this ends up being the last year.

It is nice to dream but I think GM is on the same page as Dodge. The can't meet emissions standards and it is too costly to build both ICE and EV versions of a vehicle. Ford Mustang Mach-E sales are the what is keeping the Mustang 5.0 alive for another generation.

I think one thing that's not being mentioned here is Camaro sales are not exactly red hot..and haven't been for awhile. Gotta look at this through GM's lens as it's just biz to them and more than likely seen as resources that can and will be put to use in future products. In a somewhat related note i read somewhere Al Oppenheiser is no longer with GM,wrting was on the wall in 2018.

True, the Camaro program pretty much ended in 2019 when he moved over the EV side of the house. It is just on life support until the end of sale it.

GM will build ICE and BEV versions of Blazer, Equinox, and Silverado. But then, those nameplates are selling in the hundreds of thousands, not low tens. This makes sense because they can’t ramp up production of the EV versions fast enough to completely replace the ICE versions, so they will likely overlap for a couple years. Plus, sales of ICE Silverado, Blazer, Equinox, and Escalade are what’s keeping the company afloat until the EVs start to turn a profit, so it makes sense to keep them around for a bit.
