I put in the rearward firing Sylvania Zevos. They’ve advertised as 1.5w ea. I measured the leakage at 5.1V. After reading what other folks did, I started with a 1/2w, 2.2k ohm resistor and added more in parallel till I finally got the glow to stop at 370. Put on a 470 ohm and glow came back, so I settled on a 1W, 330 ohm resistor. Both lights are in parallel so the resistor is only on one bulb.

It may work for 2019 +, but the bumper needs to pulled to remove the tail light and install. For me that’s a non starter.
After reading this thread, I’m going to end up installing the better LED bulbs with soldered resistors. Is there a consensus on which bulbs / size of resistors have allow for the best light output / longevity? I was just on Amazon and there’s a lot of choices. |

This was my solution to the problem. I stuck the resistors to the car using some VHB tape. These are not as bright as I'd like (I wanted them to really SHINE) but they were better than OEM.
