tuning out AFM question

When you tune off/out AFM , does it shut off the converter lock up also?

Thank you Joshinator, , does driving in manual mode keep that feature from happening? and since the tcm is not tuneable, any way to turn it off?

Are you referring to the AFM? Driving in manual mode does keep AFM off (or at least it did on mine but I have an A8).

Are you planning on modding the car? If so, a tune is the best way. You actually shut AFM off in your ECM tune, not TCM anyway. So, if you pick up HP Tuners you can tune it out easy enough (or have your tuner do it for you). If you have no intention of modding, then I think the Range device still works on the 2021 cars. That can be easily removed before bringing the car in for service.

I understand the AFM part, I also understand the converter lock up. You stated tuning out AFM does not stop the torque converter lock up happening. My question does driving in manual mode stop the converter from locking up, I do know it stops AFM from kicking in. So can anything be done to stop converter lock up if driving in manual mode doesnt do it? I also understand the 2020 and the 2021 TCM cannot be tuned and that it would be the TCM where the converter lock up could be shut off on the tunable TCM cars.

Yeah, torque converter lockup changes do require TCM tuning. Not sure if driving in manual affects lockup, sorry. Hopefully someone can chime in on that? I can try looking in my TCM tune next chance I get to see if lockup is broken out by TUTD mode.

And yes, I do plan on Dyno tuning with Jannetty Racing here in Connecticut. Am doing mid pipe eliminating secondary cats ,crushed pipe area
and AFM valve delete , borla S type mufflers, have a Solar 91 mm TB, have a LT2 intake, 180 stat, will be cleaning up the intake track, removing the snow blocker in the grill, front sway bar removed, will be set up with 27 in tall 10 in wide drag radials (.7 in shorter tire and wider than OE 245 40 20) giving me a 283 effective rear gear ratio versus the 277 ratio and have a E85 sensor kit I will be installing and have Jannetty turn on and tune for and will get maybe 50LBs off the nose of the car to create a easy to obtain 11.80s base 2021 LT1 car.

I have a 2020 with the A10 trans option. According to the range website, they currently have NO devices that work with this A10 at this time, for turning off the AFM.

I have 4000+ miles on my 2020 2SS A10 and have had a Range device since day 1 with absolutely no issues. Works great!

I wonder why Range is so reluctant to "OK" the use of their device on the 2020/2021 A10's?

I emailed them and they told me that they still do not support it last week. If it worked, why would they not officially advertise it as such?

Perhaps there is more to it than just "It works!".

Personally, I will wait until a device is officially supported.

In September 2019, I called Range and asked if it would work on my 2020 2SS before buying the device. Whoever it was that I spoke with said that it would work. BTW, a company called Diablosport lists an AFM disabler for model year 2020 Camaro.
